Does anyone here work full-time *and* go to school? If so, how are you doing with it? I am thinking of working M-F 8-4:15 and then going to school (to become an esthetician) M-F 5-10 p.m. for 6 months. I am v. excited about a change of career (I'm a paralegal and bored) and I know I can technically do this. Anyone going through the same thing?
It's totally do-able. You'll be exhausted, but hey it's only six months! I work full time and go to grad school 2 nights a week (have done three before) and it didn't kill me. Good luck!!
When I was in college, I worked almost full-time as a server (about 30 hours) and also did internships in addition to taking a minimum of 15 credits per semester. One semester, I had 19 credits and two internships, in addition to the job. My final semester of college, I added on writing for websites. My schedule was crazy and erratic. It's exhausting and if you don't already have a caffeine addiction, you will develop one, but it can be done. Good luck! Let us know what you decide.
You should go for it!! As long as you are doing it for you...you can accomplish way more than you think.
I am currently working 2 jobs while taking full time hours in school and have for the past two years. If you add up both my jobs, I am currently working 30-35 hours a week in addition to 15 hours of school. I still manage to find time to volunteer as a CASA. I am totally overextended, but I am doing things I like, so I don't mind at all.
I did it for periods during college (usually about 35 hours) and my bf worked over 40 hours at times, we were both full time students with term papers, reading, lots of homework... Its totally doable- but it would have been hard to do that for all 4 years. I only did it for less than a year- my bf did it for about a year and a half and it killed him. Six months is doable though.
i work about 50 hours a week (as a legal asst.) and i went back to do my paralegal certification last year. the classes were twice a week for three hours each evening, and the program lasted a year (with no semester breaks whatsoever-just straight through the year). it was hard, but my motto was "i can do anything for a year"--and i did, and it went by quickly. you can totally do it.
