*When Jack initally encountered Desmond at the stadium, before he left he gave him the advice, "you have to lift it up." He made it seem like he was talking about Jack's ankle but it seemed VERY cryptic to me. *A
I thought this was more of a faith analogy "lifting it up"---lift her (Sarah) up to a higher or omnipotent power through prayer or faith so a miracle could happen. Definitely a double connotation though…..

Wow, I really need to watch this again. I thought I understood what was going on, but there's a lot of stuff I missed. I agree that the first scene was Desmond's flashback. When Jack entered the hatch I thought something was different but I didn't put it all together. It's becoming obvious that everyone is on the island for a reason, and I hadn't thought about the quarantine being on the inside of the hatch. I am getting really curious about what these numbers mean and what brought everything together. I LOVE LOST!

I'll stop posting threads from the other message board, but I think you may be onto something. There are a ton of religious/Biblical connotations in this show. There are people speculating that Desmond is the anti-Christ, which actually, if you think about it, seems plausible.
you know what kind of stood out to me? the lettering of the "quarantine" sign. it was very official, like the stenciled letters that you would see on the side of a military truck or something. it def. did not look like the work of some lunatic trapped underground by himself.
someone other than desmond made the "quarantine" sign, and i'm thinking it has to be some kind of official entity, not an individual who was just making one sign, who would have just hand-lettered it, right?

i noticed the letter looked official but didn't really think about it. sort of a subconscious thing.
i tivo'd it so i will watch it tonight again. i only got to watch the second hour b/c i am in conversational chinese classes on wed for two hours with my hubby. was the first hour worth watching?

not really, unless you missed an episode or two last season and needed to be caught up. it didn't have any new footage--it was just a clip show/review of what happened last season.
good article below Nylabelle---i love the part below.
"And, of course, what's in the hatch? Although that all-important last question will be revealed in the premiere, producer Damon Lindelof says the real revelation will come in Episode 3. "
COME ON EPISODE 3! hurry up and get here!

ditto. I would have been more inclined to notice it consciously if it was scrawled and unofficial looking. Good point, bumblebee.
aaah! i finally watched it at lunch w/ my coworkers (i had class last night). so i don't understand how the beginning sequence can be a flashback... we see desmond's reaction to the explosion and him run to the parascope (is that what it's called). but i agree it was very bright almost like sunlight was entering... kinda weird. and it looked a lot different in the end scene. also, he seemed to look younger in the opening scene, even though you couldn't see his face... and was his hair longer in the end? gah, i wish i had a vcr so i could borrow the tape & watch it again! great episode though, i was not let down in any way!
Hey, why was Walt wet? Didn't they just drag him from boat to boat, he shouldn't have been dripping wet. Did Shannon really see him or was he a ghost / vision? Did the dog run into the woods because he knew he was there? Just thought about this over dinner & was wondering your thoughts....

well, he could be wet from jumping or falling off the boat to escape and swam to the island. the dog, vincent might have been looking for Walt....good thought--i didn't think of that. Walt could have been a vision like Jack kept seeing his father last season.

how many people ended up on the island from the crash? was it 42 by chance? i looked closer at the episode tonight. there was the 108 on the drawing on the hatch wall. it was a drawing of different scenes and the numbers and words---the only word I could make out was sick--i did see a couple of shirts drawn. i was wondering if maybe 4 people were stranded first on the island then 8, etc. and it was a pictograph of what had happened on the island

I think it is a flashback, b/c it appeared like he was in his appt earlier on b/c there were windows with light shining through. I think when the explosion happened his flashback ended or he woke up. I think he looked younger in the opening scene b/c it was a flashback from years earlier when he was training to race around the world. I think the opening scene was first chronologically, then the stadium scene and the last scene in the hatch. He looked older at the end b/c he was approximately 8-10 years older and has been living underground and he is kinda dirty and scraggly.

this is a good point. Also, if you noticed, Jack realized Sarah was better after he lifted up her hospital blanket.
BTW, BFF-NylaBelle - thank you for scanning the forums for us! I totally devoured this thread during my lunch break today.

Haha...okay...I'll post a few more good ones tomorrow. I told you I was obsessed with this show! Hehe. BTW, you're welcome halleybird.
mikacat, there were 48 survivors from the midsection of the plane. I believe that we are now down to 39 of 40 (b/c of people dying). I'll have to check on that and see what the exact count is at this point.
There are some great theories on the numbers on the other boards. I'll post those tomorrow.

Here's how it *could* have been a flashback...the scene opens to the flashback, we see the guy (who, btw, we aren't 100% positive at this point is Desmond b/c we never see his face--what if there is more than one person in the hatch?) get up, shower, exercise, etc. There is a blast (seemingly from the Lostees blowing open the hatch). The blast wakes up the guy from his flashback and we are brought back to present time, with the hatch blown open and the Lostees invading the hatch. Just a thought. HTH!
Hmm...interesting thoughts about the flashback theory.
I have a question that no one has brought up yet though: what about the magnet? Remember after Jack got into the hatch and he was going to look at the painted wall and it looked like buckets of paint laying around? The key dangling around his neck started moving toward the wall. This to me was one of the most visually memorable scenes from the show and it's been something I've yet to figure out and haven't seen much discussion about it on other boards.

Yeah - and I think that's weird all the way around, because most keys are *not* magnetic, so that little scene doesn't even make sense to me.
This is such a fun show!
