I just wanted to say that I just spent the last 2 hours listening to a power-point presentation about how, when you teach something, you should be interactive and not just lecture to your students.

I hate hate hate PowerPoint. It can definitely be helpful in certain settings but I think people totally overuse it and use it badly. Ugh

If you're bored, check out this article from a 2001 New Yorker that I always recommend to people: link

Ha.  My physics teacher shows power points every single day.

That was a great article cc...thanks.

I do use powerpoint for my notes, but I only do notes about once a week, and my only other alternative is the projector (shudder!). But I'd never use them to lecture about creativity & interaction!

I sometimes love Powerpoint for boring classes (Psych 101) because then I can just copy down what it says on the screen and not really have to listen. And then I can spend the free time drawing skanked out rockstars in the margins.

My boss thinks PowerPoint is the greatest invention ever.  He thinks its hillarious when the text zooms in and make sound effects.

at our quarterly meetings we use powerpoint all day- but the screen goes up and then we talk about that idea for 20 minutes or so... i guess our main guy makes it so fun and engaging, that it doesn't bother me too terribly much!

i imagine if ppl use it and read directly from it, it would be supa boring!

I am glad someone said this!  I think it's fine for meetings, but bad for teaching lectures and bad for note takers!

I am back in school again and I am so disappointed that two of my professors are using powerpoints for their lectures!  It sucks, one of them isn't so good at figuring out how to use the projector remote, bless his heart, so I don't understand why he doesn't just do traditional lecture!

I have already made a mental note to include this complaint in my schools professor survey when the class is done.

That is how i spent my whole life as a student.  Drawing in the margins, not listening, and then learning it on my own later.  Haha, somehow I managed really good grades, but i'm still bitter towards my time wasted.  Though i have some really cute fashion sketches now!
