WASHINGTON - Federal Emergency Management Agency director Mike Brown said Monday he has resigned "in the best interest of the agency and best interest of the president," three days after losing his onsite command of the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. "The focus has got to be on FEMA, what the people are trying to do down there," Brown told The Associated Press.

i agree.  i also like in the best interest of the agency.  hmmm, would that be because he has no experience in emergency management??  its sad when in a time of crisis an organization would be better off without its leader.

I bet he wishes he could take that back now. Brown was the picture of typical Bush administration ineptitude. I'm just surprised anyone saw fit to attempt to correct that image. It hardly seems to matter at this point.

I'm just glad that the new chief is actually qualified. Looks like he's spent pretty much his entire career in emergency management. Gosh, guys, can you think of any reason why he wasn't immediately put in as the head after the last guy left? For some reason, they had made the GC the head instead. Lawyers sure must know a lot about disaster management!
