I am suprised no one asked about this yet. So what did everyone think?
I thought that Summer and Marissa looked really good. I loved like all their outfits. I hate how Kirstin doesn't want to come home. And what is that one chick all about, the one is rehab, she wants to hurt Kirstin for some reason. I am so gld Trey is gone, he was getting old. Umm I can't think of anymore, but I know as soon as others post, I will have lots to say.
I watched it. It was good, but I actually thought some of the scenes were a little too cheesy for me...like the scene where marissa, ryan, seth, and summer take jimmy's boat out - when they were playing in the water, jumping around, I think I actually rolled my eyes!
I am curious when Kirstin will come home and where they are going w/the storyline w/her and Jeri Ryan...
Oh, I read in the paper yesterday that Marissa and Ryan finally have sex this season and that someone else dies!
This pretty much summed up what I thought (from TV Guide)
OK, I didn't think I missed the gang this summer since I had the DVD box sets, the repeats, the 120 soundtracks and Laguna Beach to keep me company. Not to mention a growing disdain for Adam Brody's too-hip-to-be-squareness. But amen that they're back! Really, how nice to see everyone. Even Trey. Of course, coming out of that coma to accuse Ryan and his massive biceps of shooting him was a tad unfortunate. I don't care if the back-to-bitchy Julie did bribe him into betraying his bro to protect Marissa; you'd think the guy wouldn't be flipping karma the bird so soon after a near-death experience, right? And shame on Jimmy for not stopping her! Fortunately, Coop and Summer's candy-striper scheme worked, the truth came out and Scruffy McRapist hopped on the next bus to guest-star-ville. Now the kids can have some fun, watch Teen Wolf, go sailing or, you know, frolic on the beach like their postcard-y montage that had me waiting for Danny Zuko and Sandy to pop up accompanied by the strains of "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing." Speaking of Grease, how slimy is Jeri Ryan's character? Cozying up to Kiki at rehab, pulling that whole "My rich dad made me drink, too" routine. Please, you see that girl's eyes? Crazy with a capital whacko. Bet ya anything she's after her money, her man or — hold onto your Sappho statues — Hot Mommy Cohen herself. Only time will tell, but I'll tell you something: If Mr. Josh Schwartz keeps this up all season, I may forgive him for offing Caleb, writing out Anna and inflicting Zzzzzach on us all last season. Jess the coke whore, however, is gonna take a serious Chrismukkah miracle. So get crackin', buddy. — Damian J. Holbrook
I knew it would be a pretty cheesy and pat episode because they just needed to resolve the shooting and Kirsten's rehab stint...
I was a teeny bit disappointed with this episode. First of all I'm getting kind of tired of all these major legal problems getting smoothed out so quickly! You'd think they'd at least let something go to trial so Sandy could have some great courtroom scenes.
Also I missed some of the scene when Juju met with the lawyer about Caleb's will. He said something about it being complicated right? Does anyone think that they could investigate Julie in his death? Caleb had already spoken to his lawyers so they knew he was planning to divorce her and then he suddenly meets with her and croaks right before he filed the papers. Obviously if the show were being realistic an autopsy could clear her but since when is The OC realistic. Maybe they thought there was too much legal stuff going on already with the shooting of Trey. But I really want to see Sandy in the courtroom!
I don't know where they're going with the Jeri Ryan thing but it seems like it could be a variation on the SWF situation and that's getting them into Oliver territory again which could be really dumb and annoying.
And yes, the beach and boat scenes were totally cheesy fluff but maybe they were trying to make it a little upbeat.
Overall I think it was a let-down after the drama of last season's finale but I'm crossing my fingers that things pick up.
Oh and I just have to say that I LOVE that everyone always calls Juju "Mrs. Cooper-Nichol" and I hope if she remarries Jimmy that she doesn't go back to just Cooper. It wouldn't make sense to keep it but she does seem to love the power that dropping that name gives her.

Right before the episode started, I was very excited; like I couldn't believe it was back so soon (last year it aired in November!) But then I was disappointed. Everuthing seems to be resolved after one episode. I really do hope it picks up because it is my favorite show above all else (I know that's sad.) We'll see what next week brings :)

I loved that too! If it's a REAL soap opera, and she remarries Jimmy, they would call her Mrs. Cooper-Nichol-Cooper.
I was a little disappointed, but, I think they just had to wrap some things up, and reaquaint us since it's been so long. I can't wait to see where the show goes in the next few weeks. I have a feeling that things won't be resolved this easily!
cc - i actually think that Juju is going to end up w/nothing...my theory is Caleb didn't leave her anything and/or she won't be able to collect for some reason, and I think they may have to move out of the OC or move into a much smaller house..that's just what I think. I also heard that Marissa gets kicked out of private school and has to go to a public high school.
The beach scene with Marissa & Ryan and Summer & Seth started out as cute and fun...but then they went on...and on...and on. I also thought it was cheesy how they all decided to go run away on the sail boat at the end. I was surprised that so much happened with Trey--they wrapped everything up in one episode. But I guess that opens the door for more storylines so that is good. All in all, it was a bit cheesy but I liked it (I think I missed it too much!).
but I do have to admitt that while I was watching it, I started to french braid my hair in certain parts!
haha, i was too! marisa's hair looked really cute. i braid mine like that every now and then, but now i'm afraid to do it. i don't want people thinking that i'm copying mischa barton! also, did you also notice that both marisa and summer had black headbands on at the beach? they both looked cute, but i thought it was strange that they had the exact same hair style.
okay, getting back to actual show: i was also a little annoyed that the trey storyline was tied up so easily, but i was definitely glad to see him go. the scene where trey looks out the window and sees ryan standing outside the bus almost had me in tears! poor ryan... also, what is up with jimmy cooper?? why didn't he stop julie from bribing trey? he's completely spineless and i loved it when sandy called him out (over coffee, drinks? they were at some restaurant.) i'm also predicting a SWF storyline with kirsten's new pal at rehab... creepy!
also, i have to say, "damn! seth cohen is looking all grown up!" his face has definitely matured since last season (getting more manly, ha!). i was drooling over him last night. he is so freakin' attractive! and i actually think that mischa barton's acting has improved a lot- i didn't cringe once during her big hospital room confrontation with trey. does anyone agree??
eta: i'm slightly embarrassed that i wrote such a long post about the oc!

Yeah me too! I assumed they had already done it, since they never made a big deal out of them NOT doing it, or waiting to do it, or discussing doing it, a la Dawson's, know what I mean?
And I have to say, as much as I think she is a drip and a terrible actress, Mischa Barton is absolutely stunning. She is just a beautiful, beautiful girl.

I think so too. Her hair looked lovely.
Did anyone else feel like the episode was really rushed? Like they didn't want to go with that old story line so lets get it out of the way as quickly as possible?
am so annoyed trey didn't die. although...probably not as annoyed as i was when oliver didn't die... i just hate that they leave these doors open. not that oliver's come back. or anna. BUT anyway.
though i did almost tear up when trey left on the bus. but mostly that was because of when ryan just sort of fell into Sandy. how absolutely sweet was that? cause he's usually putting up this tough exterior thing.
i wasn't super excited about Summer and Marissa's outfits for some reason. though i too loved the miscellaneous braids. hey, did everyone hear about the ridiculous clothing promotional tie-in with Amazon?
ah...Mrs. Cooper-Nichol, god i love it. my husband thought that scene in the hospital was way too melodramatic, but man! that's the Juju I've been waiting for!!
i really hated when they all decided to run away together. that's when *i* rolled my eyes. that is just so...tv high school. "if you go, we all go"...sigh...
i agree though, overall a let down, but that's what happens when you anticipate it for months. i hope it gets better soon too.
