We're moving to Phoenix!

Thank you Cricket & Halleybird for all the info y'all gave me. (orig. thread: http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=44784&subForumID=102179&action=viewTopic&commentID=3849617)

We went to Phoenix this weekend and fell in love!

Cricket you were right about the area surronding the LAFB, its really nice and populated.  My husband really liked Goodyear and Avondale.  We crossed Buckeye off the "Areas to Consider" List, IMO its too far from everything and we didn't like that the freeway is only 2 lanes.  We would hate to be in traffic there when the town grows in the future.

So we're going back in March to buy a new house and hopefully move in by July.  The areas we'll be looking is: Peoria, Glendale, Avondale, Goodyear, Tolleson and Tempe.  I hope prices don't go up that much in the next few months.

Halleybird, the heat was not as bad as I thought, it never bothered us at all, so I think my stylish wardrobe can work in the heat!  Phoenix seemed more relaxed and slower paced than here in L.A., which I liked.  Even the workers at WalMart were nice. WOW.

I'm so excited, I can't wait!  The bad news is I can't shop anymore, unless I really NEED it.  We have to save and pay off credit cards by March.  But I think its soooo worth it.

YAY! Another Phoenician! And I wouldn't move to Buckeye either -- way too much driving. Congrats!

edit: re - Tolleson. I know you have children (or maybe just one?) either way, be sure you very carefully check the neighborhood crime/education stats before you move. About 10 years ago, Tolleson used to be a VERY rough area, gang-wise, though it's gotten a ton better (my mom used to teach there, so I went to school in Avondale/Tolleson). Avondale/Goodyear is much nicer IMO.

I can't remember if I told you this or not, but I have a great realtor who works in the Avondale area -- I don't know if you already have one, but I'd be happy to give you her info.

Oh! thanks for the heads up, I think I'll cross Tolleson off too, I wont take any chances.  We have one baby girl and want to live in a really good area.

Add: We haven't thought about a realtor yet since we're looking at new builders, but I'll definetely PM you if I end up getting one.

Congrats!  How exciting!  I myself have turned into a chicken when it comes to moving.  I really *ought* to move...but I just can't get myself motivated.  Props to you!

Congrats - that's so exciting! My husband was traveling a lot & he love it in Phoenix - it's the only other place I've ever heard him say that he would consider moving to - & he traveled A LOT to what I thought were cool places.
