1. Stick to my color scheme. *** I did this 2. Try something different from my norm at least 1x a week. *** I fell off the wagon with this one, but I did put in more of an effort for a good part of the year 3. Look more polished when I'm dressed casual. *** This was a slow start, but I've ended the year well
For 2011:
1. I want to be more choosy with the cut of the clothes I purchase 2. Buy less. I have tons of clothes, and need to shop less and concentrate more on building a better wardrobe instead of buying more random clothes 3. Wear my scarves and belts more. I do well with jewelry, so I need to concentrate on other accessories now.
1) Wear heels more often. I tend to be attracted to heels in the store, then wear my flats most days. So I want to wear the heels that I have more often.
I did pretty well on this. Wore heels almost every time I went "out", to church at least most weeks and heels sometime to work. I'm good with that.
2) Try to work skirts and dresses into my work wardrobe. It's a casual office so I wear nice jeans most days. Our busy season is starting next month and I want to try to dress up a bit more when the clients are in for their yearly appointments.
I still wore jeans durimng the busy season, but wore a skirt or casual dress to work a few days a month during the summer. Of course I was constantly asked "Where are you going tonight so dressed up???" That got old really fast.
3) I am still on my quest to find a well fitting trench, a great pair of nude pumps and a pair of white jeans that I look good in. I will not give up hope!
I found the trench and am thankful each time I wear it. Nada on the nude shoes or white jeans.
4) I will remember that fit is more important than color, fabric or price. If it doesn't fit perfectly or can't be reasonably altered to fit perfectly, I won't buy it. I did pretty good on that this year and hope to continue it through out 2010.
I did excellent on this. I found a new tailor that I love. And turned down buying a lot of things simpley because I was not 100% happy with the fit (or any adjusted fit that they could have done to them.) As a result, I have quite a few items that are my go-to items every morning.
All right for 2011 I resolve:
1) I need to find a pair of black heels that fit and look sharp. I have such a hard time with a wide toe area and narrow heel. But they have to be out there somewhere!
2) I want to continue to wear the cute skirts I own more often. Even if it means having dozens of people ask why I'm so dressed up all day.
3) I want to stop letting other people fashion choices dictate mine. If I want to wear a dress to dinner even though my SILs or friends are wearing jeans, I will do it. I'm OK with this sometimes, but often I cave because I don't want to make them feel uncomfortable. But a nice restaurant or the theater deserves a little dressed up attire!
4) I need to add a little moire color into my wardrobe. I tend to fall back on neutrals for my basics (I own way too many gray sweaters!) I'd like to mix colors more often. I can wear my purple skirt with a royal blue sweater. I just have to let myself feel confident in it.
(2010) I am going to actually plan my wardrobe. I have a few books and sites in my wishlists, with which I will sit down, identify my style, plan a healthy budget, and figure out what I need and want to buy. - Nope - - unless you consider eliminating all neutrals except for black and gray "planning" one's wardrobe. I wore all black and gray almost every workday for almost the entire year.
I will have alterations performed on more clothes. Tom Ford told me to do this, and I'll do just about anything he says.
- Nope - - I still wear all my jeans and pants too long.
Good for you! I second this notion. I made everyone uncomfortable at Christmas dinner when I showed up in a red dress, tights and boots because my family was still in their PJs. I'm sorry people have bad manners but it shouldn't dictate how we carry ourselves!
Well gee, I could have sworn I'd participated in this before... but I checked '10 and '09 and didn't see myself. :( Hmmm...maybe I only participated 'in spirit'? So resolution 1 would have to be resolving to join in!
~Come spring I need to a real clean out of my closet...I want to make an actual spreadsheet and note what I have in duplicate, what's on it's way out, what needs to be fixed or replaced and what is missing.
~I resolve to stop talking myself into 'simplifying'. I look better in more exotic things/colors anyway. And if fashion makes me happy then I should stop trying to get rid of the happy!
~This is it...the year I really start to care about my skin. I really want to diminish the sun-freckles and the recent dullness.
~It's time to start dressing like myself instead of trying to blend in...this is my lifelong problem...
~Come January 1st I'm creating a separate account for clothing/accessory purchases instead of just adding those purchases into the general mix. That way I can only buy if the money is there.
~Additionally, I'm going to force myself to fill the gaps in my wardrobe first, before buying the things I'm drawn to. So for example...I need a long sleeve white tee for layering, before I need the pretty vintage dress at the thrift store.

Ha! I did it to the little bro's in-laws Christmas Eve. I showed up to their party in a winter white skirt, mulberry cami and navy cardi with tights and booties. So it's not like I was wearing a glam dress or Everybody else was in faded jeans and turtlenecks or bad red holiday sweaters. I have to go back there tonight and while I'll wear jeans and a cute top for New Years, it's because I want to wear them.
KaffeeKlatsch- I worked on the skin thing this past fall and am already seeing positive results. I got a Mia during Sephora FF with a GC and it's made a world of difference (there was also thread in the ST Beauty section on how to get a Mia from Ebay) Plus I started using Clinique's Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector to fade sun spots and 2 months later, they are much lighter. I'm so pleased with it that while it's pricey at $49.50, I don't mind so much because it actually works!
WOOPS! I thought I did a 2010 Style Resolution, but never got back to it, or POSTED IT! LOL SMH! LOL
Well, for 2011 I plan to:
Accessorize more, as in wear more necklaces & bracelets. I wear earrings all the time, but want to switch them out more regularly. Damn my laziness. LOL
Go thru my closets MORE OFTEN than not. Kaffee, I like your spreadsheet idea, might have to COPY that!
I have YET to buy that EXPENSIVE, nice handbag. ONE day yall, ONE DAY! LOL
Start buying clothes/shoes that SPEAK to me! LOL I mean, I really have to LOVE them, not just "I can work w/it'. Nah. LOL
Ah! Just thought of another one - here lately, or since Sept. 10, I've been buying NICER (as in more expensive) shoes. Spending $40+ does NOT bother me at all anymore! Plus they'll last longer.

I've been thinking about style resolutions, and I am having trouble coming up with any. I'm not saying that there is no room for improvement, but any deficits/conditions/issues I conjure up simply aren't compelling enough for me to turn them into resolutions.
Here are some things that are on my mind.
- Going for that more polished casual look. I can get pretty sloppy.
- Be open to some color (being in Miami will help).
- Stop buying gray shirts and sweaters (every sweater I own--except for one--is gray).
- Figure out my jeans situation. All mine stretch out to be too big an hour after I put them on, and I don't think I'm small enough to go down a size. :-/
- Opt for higher quality shoes. I bought a pair of Cole Haan ballet flats this fall, and they are so awesome. They really seem to be holding up very well, and are quite versatile.
- Get back to having fun with makeup. I used to do this all the time, and I have kind of started back up recently. I want to continue doing so.
- I need to accessorize more, but I have some basics that need fixing first.
- wear less cutesy stuff: accomplished! It took me until like August or something to kick the habit but I wear way less bows/ruffles/etc than I used to - accessorize more: I don't know if I accomplished this or not. I think I went through phases so I can't say I accomplished this overall - wear more makeup: I went in and out of this one too, but I think overall I accomplished this because I do usually wear more than just mascara now.
I sort of made the following resolutions a few months ago but I want to keep them up for 2011:
- simplify my style. Wear what works and stop trying to always step outside of the box. What's wrong with the box? It looks good in there!
- more quality, less quantity
- stop buying things that don't fit my lifestyle. For example, I have a collection of sexy, pretty, barely-worn shoes because I like how sky-high heels look, but not many occasions in my life actually call for them. I don't go clubbing, I rarely even go to bars much anymore, and when I do they're more hole-in-the-wall types. So I don't know why I keep buying flashy stuff that I only wear once.
- go to a stylist that actually knows how wavy hair works. I feel like my hairstyle keeps getting worse and worse, even though every time I go I remind my stylist that I usually don't straighten my hair and tell her that I don't think my layers look right wavy. But she keeps just flat-ironing my hair and razor-cutting. I keep going to her because I like her as a person and think she's pretty awesome, but I'm tired of not being listened to.
