The "new" icon doesn't go away. . .
Permalink Closed

After I've read a thread or viewed a section, the "new" symbol stays up and does not mark the thread as being "read".  It's happened before with the individual threads, but now the sections aren't even showing the "read" symbol.  So I keep getting excited cause there are new posts. . .but alas, it is only the phantom "new" symbol.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I have it too very regularly.  Try refreshing your page - they should show up as read after that.  HTH!

I've been having the same problem for a couple of days, and I've never had the problem before.  Refreshing isn't working for me either.

This also happens to me on a regular basis, usually if every single thread has been read.  Then I will refresh and it will mark something as new even though it isn't.  I don't really have any advice for you.  I've just sort of learned to live with it.

This is something that's sort of out of my control, but I can let the forum people know.

You do need to refresh, yes. And if you've recently cleared your cookies things will show up new (I think), as it's the cookies which are tracking what you've viewed.

Anyway, sorry for the frustration. To be honesty, I don't pay much attention to the new/read thing so I have never noticed. I just tend to look at the date/time.

As I said - I'll pass it on and see if the Sparklit forum people have anything to say.

Thanks, dc.

I'm pretty sure I've experienced before what AJ and LMonet are describing, where if I refresh, it changes.  And when it has happened before, that has worked.  This time, nothing I do changes the icons.  I haven't cleared my cookies recently, but maybe there's something wrong with them?  I'm no computer prodigy, but I'll try some stuff and report back if anything works.

At any rate, it's not a big deal--I'm learning to look at the dates/times/last post.  Just wanted to let you know in case it's something that can be fixed!

ETA:  I just cleared my cookies, and now the icons seem to be functioning.  Feel like a computer rock star!
