My credit card company, BankOne, was recently bought out by Chase. This is a credit card that I have a balance on from college that I pay off little by little every month. I looked at my statement and realized I was double charged on my finance charge last month. I called them up and they would not fix it right away. They said it had to go through their finance department who would write me a letter (snail mail!) letting me know what happened and if they would fix it and it would take about a month for me to receive this letter. I told them that anytime in the past that I have had any mischarges on any kind of bill (credit card, phone, etc.), they have always corrected it right away over the phone. The guy on the phone acknowledged that the charge was wrong, but still would not fix it. He told me if I didn't like their policy, I could send them a letter via snail mail. I told him that due to the fact that I have gotten much better service from other credit cards that I would switch my balance. He just said okay, that's fine. He didn't even care that the company would lose a customer because they double-charged me on my finance charge. I was completely pissed off. They made a mistake and they were going to send me a letter letting me know if they would fix it??? What the hell???
So, I thought about it for a while, decided I was not going to tolerate all this letter writing, and called back. The woman I spoke to immediately credited me not only the 2nd charge, but the finance charge that I really did owe. I wish I kept the guy's name. He was such a jerk.
Wow, I'm so disappointed to hear this because I work for JPMorgan, formerly Bank One. I'm glad you called back - that would have been my advice because obviously you just got a lazy jerk. I'm glad the woman you spoke to helped you out!
write a letter, my a**, i guarantee that guy was some moron who didn't know how to credit you the charge and didn't want to be bothered to ask. what a jerk!
