puppy names?

These puppies need names. So far, I've been calling them Willy and Milly, but have not committed to those names yet. They're Cairn Terriers, are one of the oldest dog breeds, and originate from Scotland. Please share your name ideas!

I like Willy and Milly, but those names are so close to one another the dogs may have a hard time differentiating between their name and their sibling's name. Maybe their names could be William and Camilla or Millicent and they could be Willy and Milly for short.

Do you have any favorite characters from a book or movie that would suit them?

Some traditional Scottish names could be fun.

Having some names in mind is a good idea, but I usually find that I need to interact with my pets for a few days to get a feel for their personality to find names that fit.

if I did that, they'd end up being named Honey Pumpkin and Puppyshnookles aww

I looked up some Scottish names, but none resonated with me.  I too am worried Willy and Milly will sound too alike too...

thanks for the vet info too!

In Gaelic this is what these names mean:

Conan means "wee doggie"

Annabel means "beautiful grace"

Kerr means "man of strength"

Tavis means "twin"

Duncan means "brown warrior"

Adare means "oak tree"

Lainie means "serves John" - this would be perfect if your husband's name is actually John.

the dark one is the male, the light one, the female. I suspect the male is a runt. I love runts

lol - Conan means "wee doggie" that's funny they named a warrior Conan. Conan would be cute

I briefly considered Nessa and Angus, but I wasn't completely sold...

What about a famous brother/sister duo -

Viola & Sebastian (the twins from 'Twelfth Night')
Jake & Maggie (Gyllenhall)
Apollo & Artemis (and many other siblings in mythology)
Holden & Phoebe (Catcher in the Rye)
Richie & Joanie, Ross & Monica, etc.

thank you for all the suggestions - they really helped in thinking through the naming process.

keep in mind I haven't even met these puppies yet (waiting for the little boy to have a vet visit for his leg before he leaves)

Anyway, we're feeling good about Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora MacDonald (Charlie and Flora.)  Was my husband's idea, actually.  We collect 19th century Staffordshire, and sometimes when there is a figure of a man and a woman, the antiques dealer will incorrectly identify them as Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora MacDonald.  It has become an inside joke between my husband and I whenever we see a Staffordshire figure of a man and woman.  Additionally, they're a part of Scottish history.  Yes, we're nerds smile

Anyway, here's the latest pictures of Charlie and Flora (that is NOT my house!):

I love the names! An inside joke with nerd appeal is great way to name them. Look at Charlie's little pink bandage. Sooo cute!

I love the names too. And I love that my husband came up with them.  Poor little thing having to wear a cast!

The rescue lady shared this with me:
"He is such a lover.  He is following me all over the house and right now sleeping in my lap.  He really is the sweetest little guy." and "I really wish I could take his bandage off.  He is running around really well but he can't bend that leg with it bandaged. Poor little guy."

I can't wait to pick them up. I have bought so many things for them, and I'm so excited to bring them home.

I don't know when I'll get them yet.  Charlie has a vet visit today, then once we know what's going on there, we're going to discuss pick up arrangements.  It's 1.5-2 hours each way to pick them up, and I'd like my husband to come with, so I'm not sure at the moment... Pictures will definitely be taken smile

I am sooooooooooo happy that things worked out for you guys!

Love the names. I remember learning the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora when I was in Scotland last year. If I remember correctly, she smuggled him out of harm's way by dressing him as a woman. And I notice your Charlie is sporting a pink bandage (not that there's anything wrong with that. I admire a guy who can confidently pull off pink.wink

Boots - yes, he was dressed as a woman, as well as hidden in a "cairn" (pile of stones -- more connection as they are Cairn Terriers.)

and yes, he's cute in pink, isn't he?
