I don't really know much expect there are lots of Bible colleges and it's close to Branson (yee-haw!). What are you going there for? How long ya going to be there?
isn't that the name of the town that the simpsons live in? i cannot get the theme song out of my head now. thanks, dot.
I think they're in Springfield, Ill. Which, incidentally, I've visited and it's nice.
I think I've been to Springfield, MO, too, on choir tour, but honestly I can't remember. I do remember being St. Louis, though, and thinking it was fun. Sorry, I'm not any help.
I'm going there for a wedding. I mean when I posted this thread I knew it was kinda a shot in the dark.. but just thought what the heck.
FP - what's the weather like in MO?.. is it like Texas?
also, don't hate me if this sounds totally retarded and East-coasty, but I love small tanneries and leather shops that do like embossed and tooled leather like in western style. Do you think that there will a place that sells stuff like that there? Sory I konw I'm retarded!
Springfield! Springfield! It's a hell of a town! I'm going there for a wedding. I mean when I posted this thread I knew it was kinda a shot in the dark.. but just thought what the heck. FP - what's the weather like in MO?.. is it like Texas?
The weather is more like the Northeast as far as humidity goes, I think. I know St. Louis was humid. I could be wrong, though. Again, I'm probably no help.

Silly girl, it isn't the wild west But seriously, I have no clue about leather shops.
The weather here has been super hot and insanely muggy & humid! Like in the upper 90's with high humidity It is probably cooler than Texas though (although this time of year that isn't saying much!). And granted I'm further south, so the temp could vary a little, but I'd still plan on it being hot and muggy.
I Sonic! Cherry vanilla dr peppers from there are the best! And cherry limades! Also, there is a restaurant off HWY 60 (I think) towards Branson called Lambert's, it is really good, home cooking style and they throw the rolls to you from across the room, hehe.
Have fun! I wish I was closer so I could go hunting for cool western leather shops with you
FP - YES I read about that place! Home of the Thrown Roll... sounds so fun! I know I would love to see your fab style in person! Anyway, thanks for all the advice and Sonic recommendations! I can't wait to go.
I will post pictures when I get back. Pump up the Springfield tourism scene!
re: simpsons, i thought they don't specify a state, and use springfield in the location because there is one in (almost) every state? (but my husband and i have always assumed springfield, kentucky -- near cincy i think)
Ah, Springfield. Well, I lived in Missouri and Kansas and drove through Springfield many times on my way to canoe down where FP lives (Arkansas). Anyway, I am sorry to tell you that tooled leather is not a big thing in Missouri... Going to have to second FashionPrincess and say that is more western and Springfield is decidedly midwestern.
Springfield is a lot like Kansas City in terms of weather...it will likely be hot and humid. Think mid-90's with humidity in the 70-90% range (making your face shiny, hair frizzy and your internal thermometer feel like it is 100+).
If you like jewelry-making, they have a great bead store called C&B. If you are going with a significant other that is outdoorsy, they also have a Bass Pro Shop. Beyond that, you can check out the Stone Hill Winery, go to a St. Louis Cardinals Double A baseball game or go on a cave tour (Fantastic Caverns--you ride through this cave). The Southern Missouri Ozark region is really quite beautiful and there are a lot of outdoor activities in the area, but in terms of shopping, the place is not that grand.
Beyond Lamberts, you could always check out Trolley's Bar and Grille (this is the restaurant opened by the former "Bachelor Star" and I do say "Star" loosely--Aaron Burge (sp?).
the ozarks are really beautiful! re: simpsons, i thought they don't specify a state, and use springfield in the location because there is one in (almost) every state? (but my husband and i have always assumed springfield, kentucky -- near cincy i think)
Ok.I know I'm off the subject. But I actually think there is a springfield in just about every state. I don't know about the one in Kentucky but I'm from Cincinnati and there is a springfield in Ohio.

Yep, there's a Springfield in PA, too. About 20 minutes from where I live.
