Wedding colors
Permalink Closed

I am getting married next June.  I really want to wear a colored shoe.  I always imagined red shoes, but I also like pink or aqua/tiffany blue for shoes...maybe even yellow, if they are the right ones.

My question is, should I incorporate this into "wedding colors?"  I should mention that I don't really care if the colors aren't completely prominent, but I want it all to at least look cohesive.   I also have a long ivory dress, so my shoes actually won't be seen all that much.

If I do incorporate my shoe color, what are some good color combos that go with either red, pink, tiffany blue, or yellow?

I don't think you necessarily have to incorporate it if you don't want to, I'd just make sure that they don't clash.

Congratulations!!!

Red, pink, tiffany blue or yellow...

These combos are by no means exhaustive, but are my favorite combinations.

Tiffany blue (persian turquoise) looks beautiful with champagne and rhinestones...

Red can look gorgeous with a pale baby blue.

Pink and orange are pretty, but not sure I'm digging that for your wedding.

Yellow.  A buttercream yellow can look really pretty with ivory.

I agree with the above sentiments... Don't think you have to incorporate it at all. It is your own little pop of personality. I've always wanted to do the same .... now all I need is a boyfriend!

I also love baby blue with red, there's a lot of inspiration on this site

I like the idea of baby blue and red. I also saw some photos of a tiffany blue- and red-themed wedding and surprisingly thought that looked really nice too.

I think I have my heart set on wearing red shoes. I also want my attendants to like what they wear and possibly wear again if they want. We were throwing around the idea of them getting one of the silk tricotine dresses from JCrew in navy (I have one myself that I wear to lots of weddings and I know they feel they could do the same). So, is it okay for them to wear navy (maybe not a typical summer color, but I don't care) with me wearing the red shoes--or is that too patriotic? If they wear navy, what should I complement that with--yellow or ivory or ____???

If it helps, the wedding is going to be pretty casual and I don't care about having everything perfectly coordinated--I just don't want anything to clash!  I feel like I am all over the place on this.

Oh, and thanks for the congrats, D. We have actually been engaged for over a year and just recently set a date, so I am just starting to plan things now.

just an idea on the blue and red theme, but would a pale steel blue dress be something they would consider? you could add a red something to it, like a red ribbon belt or something...

D, I love those shoes! I barely spent anything on my dress, so maybe I could work them into my budget....

A friend asked what I thought about navy and pink now--I would wear pink shoes then. I do like this combo, but is it too sweet?

I also want to give your suggestion a thought, D. That just might be it....

When considering Navy, think about what you want the men to wear. While many argue that black and navy go together, I'm afraid in photos it could just look off. So, if you had your heart set on the groom and groomsmen in a black tux, navy may not be the best bet.

But, if you are okay with the groomsmen wearing a navy suit, then navy would be very easy. Certainly navy and pink will be easy to accomodate for the men with pink being a popular color for men right now.

And, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for the ladies. I don't think it is too sweet, but it is a little preppy to me.

I also love the idea of a steely blue and red. And, I love those red shoes.

Right now I'm loving anything with olive green. Olive green and bright pink, olive green and blush, olive green and purple, olive green and mint/aqua, olive green and brick red...

I've always liked the idea of colored shoes, too. And I don't think they have to match everything else, but it might be nice if they coordinate. For example, if your colors are olive and purple, you could wear a lighter olive/sage shoe or a lavender shoe, or even a brighter lime/citron shoe, too.

I like the blue/red theme, too. If you do steel blue and red, you could either wear red or navy shoes, too.

I agree with all above. You don't have to neccessarily incorporate the color of the shoes into your overall color scheme unless you want to. It's your wedding and people will take their cues from your attitude. It sounds like you are pretty laid back about it so the wedding party and the guests will be too. I'm betting that you and your groom will have a fun wedding.

The blue gray dresses with red accents looks so summery and fresh to me. I can imaging your bridesmaids being able to wear the dress D posted to many occasions as well. And this is coming from a woman who is trying to unload 4 worn once bridesmaid dresses at a yard sale this weekend.

Oh and congrats on not being a bridezilla! Your bridesmaids will love you for it.

I know I'm going to get crap for this but..

Can I just throw out this idea.... brides need to get over the fact that no one ever wears their bridesmaid dresses again. I was a bridesmaid and wore ice blue. It is not a very flattering color and I won't wear it again. Yes, navy is practical and will be wearable. Is this why you're picking that color? I think there's a ton of very wearable colors that will photograph better and show more of your personality in the wedding.

I know, XtinaStyles, that my girls would not object to buying a dress they probably will not wear again--that is something we all expect to do when agreeing to stand up in someone's wedding. But, I was just stood up in a wedding in which the bride picked a dress from J.Crew that I absolutely love and WILL wear again and I thought that was so great of her, and would like to do the same for my girls.

That said, I think I have it narrowed down to tiffany blue and red or navy blue and yellow. But, who knows, I could change my mind in the coming weeks! Thank you for all of your input.

I love red and think it's a great wedding color - it's romantic and fun and the flower options would be enormous. If I were a b'maid I'd be really happy to wear a red dress. (I would not be so happy with powder blue.)

I think red dresses would be gorgeous too - and flattering to anyone!
