And I also like what she has to say about Tom Cruise:
Bacall on 'Vulgar' Cruise; Connery on Hollywood 'Idiots'
Pretty much the only good thing about growing old in Hollywood is you are finally able to say exactly what's on your mind, a perk straight-shooting showbiz veterans Lauren Bacall, 80, and Sean Connery, 74, are enjoying to the fullest.
First up is Bacall, who is apparently as annoyed and alarmed as the rest of us over Tom Cruise's unprecedented "I love the magnificent and amazing Katie Holmes!" world tour of 2005.
"His whole behavior is so shocking," the tart-tongued actress gripes to Time magazine. "It's inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially, but I think it's kind of a sickness."
Bacall, who once chided a journalist for referring to her "Dogville" co-star (and former Mrs. Cruise) Nicole Kidman as a "legend," also takes issue with those who would place the toothy "War of the Worlds" star among the ranks of true screen giants (and considering that she was married to Humphrey Bogart, the thespian knows from screen giants).
"I mean, the word 'great' stands for something," pronounces Bacall, who recently complained about the "anorexic-looking" starlets and "mediocrity" that permeate Hollywood. "When you talk about a great actor, you're not talking about Tom Cruise."
The word you're looking for here: Ouch. Also: Hee.

sidenote- "to have and have not" is one of my favorite movies of all time! she met/fell in love with humphrey bogart on the set. awwww.... she's awesome in the film. it was one of her first and she just exudes this sexy confidence. none of today's actresses come close to having her natural charisma/presence. so glam, so original. love her.
