Anyone have a recommendation for a hair salon in the Tampa/St.Pete/Clwtr. area? Especially if you have gone there for highlights and cuts. And the name of the stylist, too, if you really love a particular stylist. Thanks!!
Are you from the Bay area? If so, how exciting because I live in downtown St. Pete. Welcome to Stylethread!
I'm originally from Atlanta and usually get my hair cut when I come up here, every few months. But I have gotten my hair cut in St. Pete at J. Con salon. It's a really nice, large spa and salon on 4th Street. I went to Harve, he did an amazing job on my cut and color but he wasn't very personable. I was in the mood for a change and he gave me a new look that I loved. Like I said, I've only gone to him once but I would go back. I go to J.Con regularly for waxing and it's a very nice facility. They also have a training salon for new stylists that is cheaper than the regular salon... I'm not really familiar with this though.
2 of my friends go to Salon Jim Botts, also on 4th Street. He's always named the best colorist in the area and they have nice haircuts so I think that would be a good choice too.
I would not go to the Aveda Insitute for anythign related to hair. It's very cheap, but there;s a reason for that. Because the stylists are still students, I've heard they take forever and some are great and others are terruble. One of my friends had a disastrous haircut from there so I would stay away.
Thanks for the suggestions! I live in Clearwater, and right now I go to Salon Salvatore Christian in Hyde Park. I really like it but I was just curious to hear where other people go and see if there was some general concensus on a really great place that I hadn't tried.
It's funny you mentioned Aveda and how long it takes - my friend had the exact same complaint. She went there twice - just for a trim, though (she and I both agreed that you would have to be crazy to get color done by a student). Once she liked the cut but said it took FOREVER b/c you have to wait for the student to go run and get the teacher to come by and monitor the cut after every few snips. The other time she went she wasn't as happy with the cut, but I forget what the problem was. I haven't tried it. She hasn't gone back, though.
I might check out Salon Jim Botts like you mentioned - 4th Street is really close to me. I didn't know he was named best colorist in the area!!! That's really tempting!
