yellow walls

The new apt. that I am moving into has yellow walls in the kitchen , living/dining room. Now as you all know from my other post i like the whole cottage style. So what color scheme should I aim for? I am so confused. The yellow is like a pale yellow/buttercream/sunshine. I have a light blue chest in the living room that I would like to keep out there and a light green chair. But I want to paint/stain my tv stain and a cabinet that i have but I don't know what colors. Oh and my dining room set is also a cream color. I am going to do the windows in white.  Any suggestions on how to make this all come together? Oh and on top of that my floors are a light wood, so I also need rugs, which again I have no idea what color. I need help!!!

I think that yellow looks really pretty when paired with light blue.  You could also mix in some spring green and a little pink, too.  With the cottage look, lots of color is expected. You could mix some fun floral patterns into the room as well.  Just make sure that one of your colors is your base color (that would probably be yellow, since that's what the walls are), then have a secondary color and the rest of the colors should just be accents.

I wouldn't mix the white and the cream, though. Since you said your dining set is cream, I wouldn't do the windows in white.  I would do the windows in blue or cream with some blue in it (a small pattern, possibly).

Patterns are definitely the way to go to make it all come together and again, with the cottage look, it's okay to mix patterns.  My mom has a watercolor floral couch and a plaid chair and it looks great. The next time I visit, I'll try to remember to take pictures of her house b/c it's really well decorated in the cottage look and she did herself.

Yellow and pretty much any combo of pastels gives a very beach/cottage look, so I think you are on the right track!  You should be able to find lots of pics of that color scheme for inspiration!

For your tv stand and cabinet, assuming they are wood, I would stain them white and do a white wash type of effect.  You could also paint them white and get some chains and a hammer and distress it and sand the corners of the pieces to give it a slightly worn look.  I agree with the other girls too that yellow works well with pastels and get a look like this:

Or you could go for primary colors and get a country French kind of look like this:

Target has some window treatments that would look aborable with that decorating scheme.  There are several in the shabby chic collection that would be perfect.
