Thought I'd start my own thread on hair cuts...

Hey girls,

Thanks to some others on here, I am now contemplating cutting about 5-6 inches off my hair to make it look like Nicole Richie's.. just brushing on the shoulders with some layers and side-piecy bangs.. My hair is thick so I am worried that it will be a lot of work to keep it looking great. It is naturally wavy.. so I either straight iron it or scrunch it and it gets pretty curly.

I feel like I am in a rut.. And haven't had shorter hair in a long time (I was growing it out for my wedding for the longest time). Even though my husband LOVES my hair long, I am still getting antsy and think I need a change.

I know sunshinegirl thinks that face framing is the most flattering on everyone. What does everyone else think? I am indifferent. I have friends with really short hair that I love and friends with long hair that i love. Is there a consensus that short or long hair is more universally flattering?

i say go for it.  i had hair almost to my waist & i cut it to my chin & i loved it!  i think when it's long i get sick of it, but when it's short i wish it was long.  that's why u gotta cut it so when u grow it out again u will appreciate it.  plus it give u a chance to start all over w/ healthy hair!

I agree with Crystal. Personally, I always want what I don't have.

My hair is curly, and at one point it was very long (nearly waist length).  I despised the curl, so i saved money and did thermal reconditioning.  My hair was stick straight and it looked nice, but I wished that I had just left it alone because I thought it was boring (great way to throw away $600 but I really wanted to know what it would be like to have straight hair).

So I cut it to about chin length and I let the curl grow back in.  I got sick of fixing it all the time (always had to flat iron it), so I grew it out again.  When it got to about mid back level, I cut it.  Right now the sides are about chin length, but it's stacked and shorter in the back.  I love it and I doubt that I'll grow it out again.

Really, I think that shorter hair is more universally flattering than longer hair.  Not everyone looks good with super long hair, but most people can wear a shorter style and people who look nice with long hair probably would look just as good with a different cut.

I think it would look great on you, but I know that that cut wouldnt' work on me.  I don't like to put any work into my hair, and my hair gets pretty bushy at shoulder length. My hair is medium thickness but I have a lot of it, and pretty wavy/curly. Maybe I would look ok if my hair was shorter than shoulder length, or longer like it is now (mid back), but I actually think shoulder length is one of the hardest lengths to wear and not look blah.  It takes a really good haircut, the perfect hair type OR a lot of work.

I have a lot of hair. It's pretty long, to about mid-back, but like you, I was getting antsy with it, and thought it was getting boring. So I had some side-swept bangs cut, and they work really well with the weight and texture of my hair. I also had lots of layers cut into my hair, so now from the front it looks short, but in the back it looks nice and long. It takes no effort to maintain my style, I didn't even need to blow dry this morning!

i say cut it. it's just hair after all! it grows back. BUT, if you are still unsure, do it gradually, a few inches off/more layers each time so that you can get used to the cut/styling/etc.

also, if you are in a rut, what abt highlights? or side swept bangs? they will change the look of your hair a lot..

I just cut 15 inches off this saturday.  I donated to locks for love.  It was really really hard to cut it, but I absolutely love it!!!  I'm so happy that I did it and think you should too if it is something you have been wanting to do.

Wow!  How long was your hair before?  My friend did this once and I had to hold her hand, hehe.
