UPDATE: My husband came home on Saturday, and I had the tree guy come back out on Sunday so he could walk through the yard with my husband. My husband agreed to let them do the work plus some additional work. They're cleaning up the yard as we speak! I'm so relieved to have this burden lifted...
Also, I wanted to show my husband the flying squirrel, so I took him to the birch tree, gave it a couple of taps and the squirrel flew down and dive bombed me! he came within a foot of my head and landed on a tree next to me and stared at me. I think the squirrel has babies, hence the dive bombing. An online source I communicated with said there might be babies at this time of year and to not disturb the tree also. No doubt about it though, it's definitely a flying squirrel/sugar glider -- I saw it up-close and personal! I gave it a peanut butter offering on the tree and it's gone now -- hopefully it was the little flying squirrel that ate it.
I love that I have flying squirrels! yay! This house has been full of naturiffic surprises

That is fantastic news about the yard clean up and about the squirrels. I had no idea flying squirrels were in this area. I grew up with a woods behind my home and never saw one, nor have I seen one at our cabin up north. I just assumed they didn't live around here. It's so awesome that you have them, I'm sure they will provide a lot of humor over time.
