Thailand!
Permalink Closed

For those of you who remember (and care...I may be flattering myself here...), I recently got into the Foreign Service.  I recently finished my orientation and now know where I am going.  As the subject line gives away, I am going to Bangkok!  I can't wait.  It is supposedly a shopper's paradise...so naturally I am thrilled.  I don't leave til the end of Feb, 'cause they are teaching me Thai.  Just thought I'd share, I'm so excited.

Wow!  That's fantastic!

You haven't been around much lately, IIRC.  Sorry if I missed it, but how has married life been treating you?

married life has been great!  not much changed, since we were living together already, but everything is going well.  we went on our honeymoon, to Hawaii, and had a fabulous time.

i haven't had much time to post or lurk lately b/c of work, but i miss it here and am trying to read/post more often!

how are your plans going??

We're T minus one year and counting right now, so starting to gear up a bit.  Thanks for asking!

Glad to see you back around these parts!

What a great assignment.  How hard is it to learn Thai??  At some point I'm going to try to sit down and attempt to learn another language.

congrats!! I was actually just thinking about you the other day, so I'm really happy to see the update. And whoo-hoo for not getting stuck somewhere really crappy.

I am so totally jealous. Ever since you first mentioned the foreign service I can't stop thinking about it- I've always wanted to do something like that but didn't even realize that there was an outlet for it. I am probably going to take the exam next year....so yeah, thanks for the inspiration.

Hey, thanks everybody!

lsubatgirl - haven't started Thai training yet, but it's pretty difficult since it's tonal language, although I hear the grammar is very simple and they do have an alphabet, so it's not as hard to learn to read it as say, Chinese.

ILoveChoo - Cool, go for it!  Just be sure to study and get the sample test booklet - it will help a lot.  PM me if you have any questions about the FS.
