Hi any one else finish Harry Potter? In my NY Bar widow state I was able to choose between packing or reading. I finished the book this afternoon dying to talk to anyone about the ending
wow! you and one other person i know have finished it!
i'm afraid i am taking my time with this one. i sped through the last one and was mad at myself for not taking more time with it and enjoying it more (when i speed read- i skim over a lot of details)... so right now i am only at chapter 12! i'll come back mid-week when i've finished it!
I am saving it...but I am SO excited. I have another book to finish and then I forgot I have to read The Dogs of Babel for my bookclub But I can't WAIT! Don't tell me anything!

I bawled, BAWLED, helplessly all through the end. Bawled.
What is he going to do next year? How will he know where to look for the horcruxes? How on earth is he going to learn everything, practice everything he will need to know... and are Ron & Hermione really going with him the whole time? He has to learn how to do the killing curse if he wants to kill snape and voldemort. How strange... I wonder if he will even go to Hogwarts at all! HP wouldn't be HP without all the other characters. ESPECIALLY Ginny--she's my favorite.
I don't know though... now that my sadness has passed, I've started noticing annoying holes in the plot. Like the potions book--it was supposed to be 50 years old, but Snape was the same age as harry's parents! And if Voldemort went to all the trouble to place such complex enchantments on the horcruxes, why couldn't he have devised a way to be alerted if they were disturbed or taken?
1. R.A.B. = regulus black? 2. if R.A.B is regulus black then there is a possibility that he had some of the horcruxes at grimmauld place. (if he was killed before he could destroy them) also, since mundungus stole stuff from there, maybe he has possession of them? 3. while i do not like this theory (because i loathe snape in the books but
Regulus Black, interesting! That's very true, that one Horcrux could be at Grimmaud Place. I'm figuring at least one, also, has to be at Hogwarts? I might be completely wrong, but I can't see how she could abandon Hogwarts altogether next year, so it seems like Harry will wind up spending at least some time there, for one reason or another. Actually when he went into the Room of Requirement to hide the potions book I felt sure there would be a Horcrux in there, but after the trip to the cave with all the enchantments guarding the locket, that didn't seem to be right.
I know Book 7 is going to be insanely phenomenal....oh I can't wait!!!!!!
I talked with my BFF about it and she couldn't figure out who RAB was, but then I told her I was thinking Regelus Black. I agree that the Horcrux is probably in Grimmuad Place...the place is certainly spooky enough...
Also I bawled when I found out Dumbledore was gone....bwaled and bawled and bawled and ran back to bed because I was so shaken and I needed a cuddle from the BF.
We (my friends and I) also came up with Regulas Black for R.A.B.
Snape/Dumbledore theory that we have:
Harry overheard Snape saying to Dumbledore that he HAD to help Draco. That he had to finish what he started. If you notice at the end, Dumbledore says "snape, please." not PLEASE DONT KILL ME... but please- as in- you must finish it and help draco as we agreed. obviously dumbledore is NOT stupid and knows that draco was trying to kill him all year and that Snape was supposed to be helping draco. so... we think that snape is possibly still GOOD and not a death eater! b/c we never found out why dumbledore really trusted snape.
thats what i was typing when my post cut off. as much as i hate snape (but love alan rickman as snape!), i think he will get some sort of redemption in the 7th book. probably similarly to when he told harry he had to promise to keep making him drink.
As much as I'd like to think Snape was doing something good, I thought what he was referring to with Draco was the Unbreakable Vow. Remember in the beginning, he made a binding vow to help Draco with whatever it was and, in the end, to do it for him if he couldn't? So I understood that to mean he was magically bound to the entire enterprise. Also, remember as Snape was fleeing with Draco, he kept saying to the death eaters not to kill harry b/c Voldemort wanted him alive. If he were in league with Dumbledore, he wouldn't have wanted Voldemort to get his hands on Harry at all, he would have found some way to prevent it. And the whole story about him being upset that Voldemort killed Lily & James based on the prophecy does not make any sense. Harry's right, he hated James, and it's not like Snape wouldn't have known what Voldemort was doing by that stage--he had already killed a ton of people! So Snape would have known V. would kill whoever the prophecy was about--you'd think he'd have been delighted to find it was his old enemy, not distressed and remorseful.
I hope you guys are right, though. I liked the way Snape's character was drawn as petty and cruel and malicious but not to the point of actually hurting people, so I was disappointed when he turned out to be a flat-out murderer after all. And I haven't forgotten about Wormtail either--remember what Dumbledore said at the end of Book 3? That Harry had sent the dark lord a servant who was in Harry's debt? I'm sure that will come into play.
i was crying my eyes out too! normally i don't cry much at books or movies, but the idea that dumbledore could actually be killed was so shocking and terrible.
i've been thinking about this a lot and wonder if dumbledore will actually be back next time. i could be wrong, but here's my theory: he and harry both have such a tie to the phoenix. the core of harry's wand from fawkes the phoenix, who was dumbledore's bird, and of course the order of the phoenix. at dumbledore's funeral, he's cremated. so like the phoenix, he went up in flames, perhaps to be re-born?
i also like how snape and what happened are complicated, and not just black and white. when he makes the unbreakable vow with narcissa, he hesitates, so he doesn't seem to enter into it enthusiastically, but he does choose his self preservation over dumbledore's life. but if dumbledore can come back, then this will turn out to be a side matter.
as for dumbledore, doesn't he mention at one point that adults, him included, make mistakes sometimes too? this could have been foreshadowing that he was wrong to trust snape, if snape is just evil and has no redemption in store. his occasional impatience with harry made me wonder if dumbledore knew their time would be short, that his end was approaching, and he wanted to hurry to get things accomplished. after what harry saw about snape's life in the pensieve last book made me hope there would be some kind of thaw in their relationship, that snape would realize harry had had a difficult life too and vice versa. man, i can't wait for the next one! i hope ginny doesn't get hurt.
Does anyone remember what Dumbledore's brother's name was? I remember it somewhere in one of the books and I thought his name started with an R but his initials can't be RAB because his last name would be Dumbledore, right? I think I'm going to go to some websites and see who the heck they think RAB is.
I'm so glad Hermione and Ron are going to go with Harry. To be fair, I don't think he's ever given them enough credit with helping him (especially Hermione) in his fights. He always thinks he can do everything by himself but he can't! Remember how Dumbledore kept saying V never had any real friends? Maybe that's the key to Harry defeating him...
I just finished the book about 20 minutes ago and I'm still in shock. Part of me wants to think that Dumbledore will come back, but the other part of me realizes that Harry doesn't really need him anymore. Dumbledore passed down pretty much all the information that Harry needs to defeat Voldemort, so for him to come back wouldn't serve any purpose that I can see, unfortunately.
I have no idea what to think of Snape. I don't think he's on the good side, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm dying to know who RAB is. Does anyone know when the next book is supposed to come out? I really hope Rowling doesn't make us wait another 2 years to find out what happens!
Overall, I really liked how this book sets up the next. I like how she didn't bother to tie up any loose ends and just left everything hanging until the next book.
I nerded out last night and went to Mugglenet.com, which is this site that this kid created full of every conceivable piece of Potter info and Potter theory you could ever hope to see. There was a lot of conjecture there that RAB is in fact Regulus Black... somebody found a passage in Order of the Phoenix that describes the discovery at Grimmaud place of "a heavy locket that none of them could open." Sounds like the missing horcrux to me!
My question is though, how the hell is Harry going to destroy them? Seems like you'd have to be extremely powerful, although of course he did destroy the journal without even realizing what he was doing.
There were some hints about book 7, too--apparently Rowling has said in interviews that there will be more to learn about Lily and James, especially Lily, and that their professions will turn out to have played a role in what happened or will happen. And that it will be important that Lily's wand was good at charms.
I wonder if Malfoy will turn out to be important at all? He's a nasty little SOB, but that scene at the end showed that he is not truly evil and was motivated at least in part by fear for his family. I don't know... we will have to wait so long... but at least the movie is coming out in November. I've seen stills from it, and Harry and Ron have the worst hair on EARTH.
i finished it last sunday and i still get sad when i think about it i wasn't even into the books before but now i am obsessed! i've only read Goblet of Fire and this last one though so I'm not sure about a lot of the details. i did see on another site though this theory that Snape killed Dumbledore because Dumbledore ordered him to and not because Snape wanted to--something about the addava kadavra (sp??) curse not supposed to make that much of a spectacle and that really Snape did a nonverbal spell throwing Dumbledore out of the tower because he didn't have the will strong enough to kill Dumbledore with the addava spell. oh and something about Dumbledore not being the type to plead for his life and the "please" was a "please, snape do as i told you" not a "please snape don't kill me."
anyway, i think snape is going to turn out to be on the good side because harry'll need his guidance and help and maybe it will turn out that snape was in love w/ harry's mom?
oh and weren't ron and hermione and harry and ginny soooo cute? and fleur and bill too! aww...
