RE: Finished Harry Potter SPOILERS Beware!

i just finished it last night...  wow.  i had no idea.  but i was dying to come here and read your thoughts.

here are some of mine:

i just keep thinking that snape has to be somehow a "good" guy...  dumbledore had to have trusted him for some reason.  i feel like snape has some kind of connection with harry; even tho they kind of hate each other, i think snape is trying to watch over harry for some reason.  he seems to pop up when harry is in big trouble.

i'm glad mcgonagall is headmistress.  i have always liked her for her honesty, and clear thinking.

i love ginny and harry together.  love them.

i like the theory someone posted above about dumbledore coming back like fawkes.  good idea. i have never thought of that.  he will still somehow protect and guide harry in the last book like others have...

and just a question, but when harry and malfoy were just beginning to fight, and malfor called out curci or whatever..  he WAS trying to kill harry, right?

i'm dying to read the next one, but what will we do afterwards?  no more HP...  how sad.  i get so excited about those books.

OK, I read this slowly because I didn't want it to end, but I finally finished it last night. It was a great stage-setter for Book 7, but did anyone else feel like nothing really happened in the first 300 pages? Anyway, my thoughts:

-I Snape. I think he is the most interesting character in the entire series, and the hardest to figure out. I don't believe he is a loyal Death Eater, nor do I think he is a good guy, exactly. I would love to know what it was that made Dumbledore trust him so completely.  Anyway, I thought he killed Dumbledore because of the Unbreakable Vow -- Malfoy couldn't do it, so he had to. I think Dumbledore knew it would happen.

-As for Dumbley, I cried too -- especially at the part during the funeral when Harry realizes he is alone. However, I wasn't that surprised. I saw his death as sort of an Obi-Wan Kenobi death, where he will somehow be more influential to Harry in death than he was in life. I also think it was a necessary plot element. Rowling has slowly been "eliminating" Harry's protectors. In the final book, he will face Voldemort alone.

-I think the fact that Harry can't close his mind will be very important in the future, and in a good way for him. Rowling keeps bringing up his failure at Occulemency, and Snape brought it up at the end. I think it has something to do with his character traits (honesty, loyalty, etc) and will help him in the end.

-I think Malfoy will end up helping Harry.

-I love Tonks & Lupin together, and I love Fleur Delacour, more so now.

-The R.A.B. totally confused me. At first, I thought it was Dumbledore who had left it; they always called him Albus, but he could have an unused first name. I thought he staged the whole retrieval thing for Harry's benefit (like a training session). But that obviously makes no sense -- I think the Regulus Black theory is probably right.

-By the way, does anyone else see HP as being very, very, very Lord-of-the-Rings influenced? Drives me nuts every time I read it.

tara t, i think malfoy was trying to perform the cruciatus curse, which is for torturing but not killing. it's one of the three "unforgiveable" curses, the other two being avada kedavra (killing) and imperius (mind control), i think. the cruciatus curse is same one that the lestranges used to torture neville longbottom's parents into madness, and that the fake professor moody demonstrated in class on spiders in book four. (i totally nerded out before this book came out and went back and read a couple of the older ones to prepare.)

I just finished the book tonight and I'm with everyone on Dumbledore: I wasn't crying, but I sure as hell was getting choked up.

I also cannot wait until Book 7; I'm so antsy to see how this whole series turns out! And what sucks even more is that it's still going to be a couple of years before it's even released.

"Wow", is all I can think after that ending...

I just finished and could finally read this thread!!  I am really upset about Dumbledore and I too am stumped about R.A.B but Regulus Black is a good theory! I cannot imagine a whole book witout Hogwart's at the centre so I am hoping the school will open. My big question is.....how long will we have to wait for the next one???? How many years were between this one and the last? A couple??? I cant wait!! Maybe this one will come out sooner! Or JK will let the excitement build longer? I hope not.

I am thinking Dumbledore will be right about Snape in the end. I don't think Dumbledore could be wrong. Did anyone else get the heebie jeebies when Delores Umbridge showed up at the funeral??

I was touched when Fleur said she was beautiful enough for both she and Bill and they would still be getting married. That is my vote for most awwwwwww moment in the book.

I agree - it was sooo sweet. I was as impressed as Mrs. Weasley I think.

I think Snape is great too!!!  Is it weird that I have a crush on Snape in the movies though?  I don't know what it is about him, but Alan Rickman as Snape is hott.  I think I'm a little f*ed up!!!
