The people I babysit for part time have asked me to go with them to NYC in October. We will be going to visit the Child's grandparents. They live in the Upper East Side by the East River. They are currently seeking hotels. I think they want a pretty nice place to stay very close to the grandparents. Any suggestions?
Also, these people are crazy. They won't ask/listen to the grandparents hotel suggestions, they are just searching the internet. Neither of them know how to use the internet efficiently. They had never heard of travelocity or any other travel site.
I would LOVE to suggest something to them. If you guys could help me out I would really appreciate it. They are scared of everything...germs, terrorists, the city in general (they are kind of OCD when it comes to stuff). THerefore, I forsee us spending alot of time in the hotel. I want a great one that I can walk to fun stuff during my breaks they give me. I don't want to get stuck somewhere yucky. I LOVE NYC and can't wait to return.
It is going to be torturous to be in NYC and not able to go shopping, see museums, etc. It'll be like dangling heroin in front of a junkie!
I realize the upper east side is pretty kick ass in general, but your knowledge can help me feel at ease.
Do you know what their price range is? I live on the UES and while I don't have first-hand experience with any of the hotels I can at least give you an idea of location. Do they want a hotel really close to the grandparents?
I live down the block from the Bentley Hotel which is right on the East River at 62nd street. It isn't especially attractive - it's a big modern bulding and the surrounding block isn't gorgeous since it's right by the entrance to the FDR Drive - but I bet most of the rooms have great views of the river and the 59th street bridge and I *think* dc said her parents stayed there and really liked it.
I also pass the Melrose Hotel every day (63rd and Lex) and that seems really nice. It's an attractive building and is closer to shopping and to the subway.
If you go to quikbook.com you can check out both hotels.
