I'm signed up to do the Mud Run at the end of the month. We just decided to do this. I am doing the 5k team run. Is it possible to get myself in good enough shape to do this without dying? I have about 20some days. Please give me any and all advice.
I've always had a hard time running, but I've found that lifting weights (or doing strengthening anyway) helps me more than doing alot of cardio training. That's just me, but I would try to prepare by doing just as much strength training as running.
Have you heard of the Couch to 5k program? I've heard lots of people talk about doing it, maybe you'd be able to do a condensed version?

I've done many 5K's and the main thing to remember is that they are called "fun runs" for a reason. They're supposed to be fun! Don't let it stress you out.
In my experience, most people run for a while then walk a bit, then run a while longer. I wouldn't worry about running the entire 5K. When you get tired, walk. Some people walk the whole thing.
The best advice I can tell you for getting ready is to get a good night's sleep the night before and eat breakfast before the race. I like to have something light, like cereal. But be careful how much you have to drink. There's nothing worse than getting a cramp during the race.
A good playlist on your ipod will help during the race. It's great motivation and helps with your timing too.
I would just start walking/running every day to prep. I notice that once I start a cardio routine I am able to grow really fast, one week I won't be able to last more than 15 mins and 2 weeks later I'll be running uphill for 30 mins solid. You can do it!
