I can't speak for everyone, but I feel like the last two years have been one big shopping ban.
I have made changes and have spent a lot less because I needed to, but much of my reduction has involuntary response to the general consumer malaise of this wonderful economy.
Of course, I don't know your financial situation, but maybe it's a case of not changing how much you spend, but changing the way you buy.
Why can't we feel better about what and how we buy?
Ooh Makeup Alley Swaps sound like a good idea. I have not tried ebay before but it is a thought.
Pollyjean23 - I totally understand what you are saying. I've had quite the opposite experience the past 2 years where I never really let up because I didn't have to. Salary & bonus kept up with the price changes due to where I live but after looking long and hard at my bank account and my closet I can see where I need to reprioritize.
I'll jump on the ban. I overshopped in the fall, and have not been shopping much lately because I feel guilty. I have managed to save up quite a bit of money, and will be paying off a credit card here shortly.
I only know of one item I need to purchase before May 1, so I can just be thrifty for that purchase!
I'll join... I've been doing way too much shopping lately, and a lot of the time, when it comes in the mail, or I see it in my closet or whatever, I'm like, "why did I even buy this?" And by then it's too late to return or I've wasted money on s&h.
I use shopping as a form of therapy, but it's become an increasingly expensive form of therapy... So, yeah, I'll be on a ban until May 1, maybe June 1 (of course, I'll probably slip up here and there, but I really need to cut down the amount I'm spending and put that into savings instead).

I'll join up, though my 'ban' will be a modified one. I don't need to be shopping for random 'stuff', but I do need to replace a good chunk of my wardrobe (spring/summer) that no longer fit. I'm only going to allow myself to buy those specific items to fill holes in my wardrobe intead of purchasing willy nilly for fun.

I'm not QUITE on a shopping ban, just NOT REALLY shopping till my FLA trip in THREE WEEKS! I'm so excited. All I'm buying now is FOOD & GAS. That's it! LOL I may buy a couple of things, but NO MORE than $10.00! LOL

Well we went townhome browsing last night and just love the neighborhood next to our apartments. We mentally started calculating the downpayment and decided we'd start hosting our friends over and cooking vs. going out all the time. I can't wait to play hostess.
I also decided we are going to go shopping in our pantry this week instead of at the store if at all possible. I have a whole week's menu planned out and no trip to the grocery store is required!
Many of you have said that they have carried out the ban on their own purchases. Some, like me, have your finances in shape. Others feel overwhelmed by the amount of clothing collected already and want to force a slowdown in purchases.
