Recently (about a month ago) I started getting red, burning skin on my face and I have no idea what it might be or what might be causing it. I've been to the dermatologist and he was not much help so I was hoping someone here might have had this happen and might know what it is. Basically, it seems to happen every few days. I wake up and my skin is fine but then by the time I get to work my skin is splochy red and feels like it's burning. I've always had a little redness in my skin especially when I drink wine or get overheated but I've never had the burning. Any ideas what might be going on? TIA!
it sounds like an allergic reaction, but your derm should have been able to figure that out. have you started using any new makeup/skincare products? do you clean your makeup brushes regularly?
I get this with certian makeups, even if I have used them for a while. I mostly get it on my eyelids, heaven forbid I sweat or I feel like my eyes are on fire. If it is the same thing try cortisone cream and either clean your application tools or change them. Also try not using your makeup if it stops you may have to switch make ups after your skin doesn't like it anymore. If this doesn't help get a new derm they are there for you not the other way around. Good luck.
Do the splochy areas seem to spread or get bigger? Are they flakey? You could be developing some form of dermatitis. I'd get a second opinion from another dermatologist. But maybe you're just having an allergic reaction to something.
I think it's rosacea. I have rosacea and I have those exact symptoms. When I get overheated by drinking, sitting in the sun, etc. my face goes crazy--gets red, blotchy, and burns. There are several treatments. I would go back to the derm or go to another one and ask about it. It's best to catch it early and treat it. If you have any questions, feel free to pm me.
Thank you all so much for your responses. I have been stressing over this for a month and I was really getting upset about it. After I read bumblebee's response I started thinking about the products I've been using. I had already considered the fact that a product could be the possible cause of my redness/burning but since I'm addicted to products and use lots of different ones all the time I just didn't think that's what it could be. But, it really struck and cord when bumblebee mentioned I could be having an allergic reaction. I'm not allergic to anything that I'm aware of and I've never had an allergic reaction (before this) but when I thought about it the irritation I was experiencing was exactly what I would expect an allergic reaction to feel like. Consequently, I reconsidered the possibility that a product could be the cause of my problem. I don't wear a lot of make-up but I realized I had started using the Dermalogica oil control lotion in addition to MAC blot powder at about the same time this started happening. I have gradually been developing oily skin and about a month ago I decided I was going to do something about it so I bought the oil control lotion and blot powder. To make a long story short, I think that's what's been causing my problem. I did a little research on both products and apparently there are mineral oils in most oil control products and it's not uncommon for people to be allergic to one of the mineral oils. Needless to say I have stopped using both products and my face it definitely less irritated. I can't say thank you enough to the people who responded and helped me figure this out!
Bumblebee - I wish I had consulted you before I spent $90 at the dermatologist!
