I'm a stay at home mom, dont have many fancy places to go. So I try and make up for that by trying to wear some bling , mascara, and now I'm adding blush to my everyday face. I have cheeks, so I know I need to have it on pretty defined....but dont want to look like a clown.
I'd start off very lightly until you get used to wearing it. You can always build up. I personally use this as a rule of thumb on blush: if I can look at a person (or myself) and I think, that person is wearing blush, it's too much. If I look at somebody and just think they look pretty (all glowy and healthy) then it's just the right amount of blush.

I like Boots' description. For me, I know I easily OD on blush very easily - I seriously just take my brush, tap it lightly on the compact about two times, and that's perfect. I don't have any idea how I'll ever make it through my two blushes in the next decade. Of course I am pretty pale so maybe that's why!

I'm following this thread avidly because I know nothing about blush. I'm pale too and I don't wear any. It's not my "look," know what I mean? But eventually I know I'll have to start wearing some, because one day I'll look my age.
I like cream blushes and think they look pretty natural. If you put on too much and look like a clown, just keep blending. I was never very good at powder blush, so for me these are kind of foolproof.
I like NARS The Multiple, Tarte Cheek Stain, Bobbi Brown cream stick blush.
I'm Irish pale. I have some Tarte cheek stains, Stila cheek stains (word to the wise, these are really easy to over do when putting on) and a few random like Smashbox or Lorac. My new favorite is Nars the Multiple stick in Orgasm. I know, it's been around forever, but I finally tried it and can see what all the hype is about. For powder, I'd recommend Benefit Dandelion. It's a soft pink that just just the hint of color. I reach for it when I'm having a bad skin day or when I just want to get a little color.

Oo! I forgot about my Dandelion! I'll have to pull that out.
I agree about the stains. Once you get the hang of them, though, they give a very natural look. Since I changed moisturizers, I noticed that I have to work harder (and faster) to blend stain onto my cheeks. I use a special toner to help me blend more thoroughly if I make a mistake, and then I always put on tinted moisturizer or sheer foundation after. The makeup diffuses the stain even more.
