I went off birth control and all of a sudden my face is breaking out. I hate it!!! I use Dermalogica's anti-bac skin wash and active moist moisturizers which I love. I also use an Aveeno spot treatment with salicylic acid. What does everyone else do? I think I need something else but I'm not sure where to start.
I found that salicylic acid never worked with my skin. It never dried the zits up. I use DDF benzyil peroxide acne gel with Tea Tree oil (5% not 10%) from Sephora and it really does the trick. Maybe stop by a sephora if you are close to one and get a free sample to try before buying. It works wonders on my skin. I only use it for 3 days in a row and then take a day off to breathe. I also only use it at night and never under my makeup because then it irritates my skin.
I use Purpose facial wash and I love it. It never dries out my skin and my acne has actually gotten better since I started using it. It was cheap, like less than $6 at Target. After cleansing, I use Tazorac every other day and it has really helped my skin too.
what works for me is the new Boire line. I use the ice face wash and the warming black head scrub. if i erupt then I jsut put on clean and clear 10% benzoil peroxide. and twice a week I use netragena's acne fading mask, which totaly rocks. This keeps my skin pretty much clear.
I went to the dermatologist last fall because all of a sudden I broke out again. I thought I left that behind in high school and then boom! But now i've been using Neutrogena Oil-free Acne Face Wash and Tazorac and it's worked like a dream. My skin is perfect now. FYI - I believe you can only get Tazorac through a prescription. I found nothing over the counter ever really worked to get rid of my pimples.
What about that Proactive stuff in tv and magazines that Jessica Simpson uses?
My daily regimine:
1: I use daily facials (I switched to Target brand since it's half as much, and like it way better! Olay is overpriced, and I swear they increased their prices since last year)
2: After washing I use Loreal Pure Zone toner, applied by jumbo cotton ball.
3. Moisturize with Olay facial lotion (the plain stuff) Then apply makeup thereafter.
4. End of day: I use Target brand makeup remover towlettes. Another item way better than Olay, and half as much. Then moisturize with Olay lotion.
At least twice a day I will use Clean and Clear oil obsorbing sheets. I also use Biore pore strips for the nose once a week.
All that and my skin is smooth, radiant, and blemish free!
Maybe switch the salicylic acid for a strong concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide. You'll probably want to find something ith 5% BP to start (lsubatgirl's recommendation of DDF is great) and if your skin cna handle it, you may want to go up to 10%.
I've had serious hormonally-induced acne since I was in 5th grade (I'm 20 now). I think I tried everything in the drugstore with very little results. Salicylic acid doe nothing for me, sadly. Then I went to Sephora and they prescribed me a regiment that over the course of a year, got rid of my acne once and for all.
For repair (until I had rid my skin of 90% of the acne)
Philosophy Purity Made Simple
Peter Thomas Roth 10% BP Gel
Shiseido Pureness Moisturizing Gel-Creme
Shiseido Bio-Performance Eye Cream (ok well that's not for acne, but the skin under my eyes is dry)
I would also use either the Origins Clear Improvement Mask or the Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask at least once a week.
For maintenence after the acne was gone, I switched the BP for glycolic acid. I really liked DDF's 10% glycolic toner...it leaves my face so fresh. I've tried Peter Thomas Roth's glycolic gel and I don't like it as much...I think I just like the toner formulation.
I went off the cocktail to try some Fresh products and my skin is not happy...my acne is back, though not nearly as bad. Once I finish off the products I'm using, I'm going back to the regimen I used for maintenence. It's really worked quite well for me.
dont use too many harsh stuff on your face b/c that sort of thing will make it worst.
my face gets an occasional breakout (on my forehead mainly) but right now, its clear. i'm currently using...
oil of olay cream cleanser -- the age defying stuff that has the black labels (i'm starting now at the age of 20 )
oil of olay face lotion spf 15 (i vary between the normal spf 15 one and the age defying spf 15 stuff)
and at night, I just use the nonalcohol stridex face pads and use my face lotion that i used in the morning.
i keep it easy b/c i'm too lazy to go through alot of regimen. once every so while (every month pretty much), i'll either use the queen helene mint mask or the neutrogena facial peel.
To be fair, I don't really have a problem with acne, but I switched bcps recently and my face started having its monthly one zit every day. gross.
to clean: cetaphil for sensitive skin on a cotton pad and i don't rinse it off & then some kind of toner (this is key i think)
after all that, i doctor up my "spots" with queen helene mint julep face mask. I just dot it on the places that need it and leave it on all night. i rinse it off in the morning and it really works. clears everything right up.
in the shower in the morning (or at night sometimes) i use a scrub for my face
and i always wear ptr moisturizing lotion with spf 30. it makes my skin super soft but one of my friends says it makes her face oily. i guess it's different for each person.
