I'll be away all this weekend at the beach w/ my family.  There will be a lot of family there, and there's always the possibility of going out to lunch/dinner instead of eating at the house.  It will probably be really hot, and there's no A/C in the house.  But it is right on the ocean, so there's usually some sort of breeze blowing through.  I need some ideas as to what to wear during the 3 days of vacay that will be cool & comfy as well as stylish & non-sloppy.  I have tons of tanks, camis, gauze skirts, Bermudas, athletic shorts, and fitted tees; so any suggestions with those items will be great.  But I'm open to other ideas and pictures!  There's plenty of time for shopping still!!!!!

I don't want to be too overdone and fancy, though, or I'll look silly.  Needs to be casual AND chic.

TIA!!!!!

I think pairing a tunic with white denim and metallic sandals is super chic...

That would be great if we get to go out in the evening.  How about hanging out at the house during the day when, chances are, it will be scorching?  I have a skirt that I usually use as a beach cover-up because it's super short (like just above mid-thigh.  It's the lightweight sweatshirt material w/ raw ends.  Would that be too revealing as a wear-around skirt for the day?  Just around the house, I mean.

p.s.  I can't wait to wear that tunic!!!!!!!!

I think if you have a swimsuit on under that skirt it doesn't really matter how short it is - I know when I'm at the beach I generally have a suit on the whole time, that's why I mention it.

Also, these are certainly not the most slenderizing pants i own, but I have been LIVING in them on the weekends, they are so lightweight linen & wrinkle, but not TO DEATH like some. Although I hate to send you back to target! I wear them with a tank & sandals / flip flops.

Also, do you have any skirts like this? I think they look cute but casual with tanks too

when i was at the beach last month, most of the time sitting around the house i just wore a simple cotton skirt i got from f21 and tank tops.

i think the suggestions from sfc sound great! i think a nice jean skirt, (or lighter cotton neutral colored skirt) would be good to bring because you can wear them with a lot. (like that embroidered tee from target) i think a nice cotton shift would be good, too.

this dress seems comfy and cool to wear around the house, from target!

I dug out that skirt and discovered that it's got shorts under it.  Not really a skort, because it looks like a skirt from both sides.

Those are cute little linen pants!  I never mind going back to any store, in case you can't tell from my shopping addiction.......   I have some black linen drawstring crops that might work.  I just know it is BURNING in the house since there's no a/c, but bearable on the back porch as long as there's a breeze off the ocean.  Maybe I'm just in a style rut, because all my stuff looks so BORING!!!!!!

I have a few skirts like you posted, laken1.  I wore the white one yesterday to the beach house but had to roll it at the waist to make it shorter because it was so freakin' hot!  I'll go to Target this afternoon to browse.

I may not have specific fashion suggestions, but may be able to offer some advice!  Last fall, my hubby and I went to remote place in Mexico for 6 days - so beautiful and peaceful BUT no a/c or electricity.  And it was hot - in the high 90's.  I am the high-maintenance type, so I had to do some pre-planning that I think worked out really well:

-take lots of tank tops, because once you wear one on a hot sweaty day, you aren't going to want to touch it again!

- I lived in my cool change dress/skirt, and I just got a cute knock-off at old navy for $19 - it's a touch longer, so when you pull it over your swim top, it still covers your bum.

- take a scarf/bandana to wrap around your hair, because the last thing you want to do is use a hair dryer.

- if you are into it, go with the whole boho vibe - white tank, loose tiered skirt or knit capris, headscarf, then throw on a wooden bead necklace if you go out.

Have fun, stay cool

I'm planning to go to the beach, too, this weekend (soooo excited!!!!).  We will probably spend the day at the beach, possibly go out for dinner and then head to this club/bar that is on the bay and the floor is sand (so much fun!).

Anyway, here's what I plan on taking:

Shoes:

  • Flip flops for the beach and the bar (sand destroys nice shoes)
  • A pair of silver or gold epadrilles for going to dinner (haven't decided which color yet)

Clothing:

  • White tiered eyelet skirt
  • Brown tiered skirt (the target one that everyone on this board has)
  • Swimsuit (duh!), probably two
  • a few cute camis and racerback tanks
  • Swimsuit coverup (aka, last summer's poncho)
  • Possily one dressier cami/top for dinner

Accessories

  • Beach bag
  • Smaller bag for going to dinner
  • Cheap jewelry (from Claire's or Target...don't want to ruin the good stuff with sand and saltwater!)--long wooden beaded necklace, a big tropical flower necklace and some shell earrings

HTH!!! Have fun at the beach!

ETA: I might also take a pair of bermuda shorts.

I have the similar to #2 above from Wal-Mart that we were discussing not too long ago.  I wore it yesterday at times, too.  It was good, but I felt preggo.  I've been preggo so much that I don't care to look it again!!!!! Maybe I'll try the short sundress thing.  I have one that is from the girls' department and looks very tennis-y.  I think we'll only be there Sat-Mon, but there will be lots of family and friends in and out.  Plus we'll prob go out to dinner with the cousins.  PLUS I'll have to run around after the rugrats.

jj - I can't see any of your pics!

Oh, and I have short hair, so I don't know that the hair scarf or even headband will work for me.

I'm new to this, and not so competent posting pics.  I think this will work... Me in my loose-fitting capris and one of many wife beaters

nope, doesn't work.......  Are your pics on an online picture place like shutterfly or your own personal website?  If not, it won't work.

When it's wicked hot out, all I can think of putting on is soft cotton or terry. I would say little skirts and tank tops would be a good bet. Skirts like these perhaps:

Cool and summery, yet long enough to be "family appropriate". Then pack a bunch of solid tanks you can mix and match. The less thinking you have to do on vacation, the better.

Have so much fun!
