Ok, so Thursday night I am taking Amtrak overnight from VA to SC and I don't know ANYTHING about riding the train. I plan on taking a sleep aid, but I was hoping you girls could help me figure out what all I need to bring to be comfortable.
Does it get cold? Should I bring earplugs, eyemask, etc? Do you just leave your purse, etc. while you are asleep or is there somewhere to lock it up?
Sorry I'm so clueless, I've always taken the trip by plane or car, but this is the most time/cost efficient this time. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks ladies!

the train is pretty comfortable. i have never had a problem with anything being stolen while on the train, either. typically, i sleep with my purse on my lap.
i would say if you have a light blanket, the train does get cold sometimes. usually i just roll a t-shirt in my bag up for a pillow, but if you don't have to travel far with your luggage, i would say bring a pillow if there is room.
the train is usually pretty quiet on overnight trips. (other than the overtypical and annoying use of cell phones)
i much prefer the train, because the seats are huge, and recline back pretty far. you can walk around, hang out in the dining car/etc. some night trains even have movies + observation decks. also, unless it's a really crowded trip, i am almost always able to get both seats to myself and sort of sprawl out to sleep. (just under the size of back car seats)
