As some of you remember, I'm going to be teaching aerobics at my university in the fall. I need to get ideas of what people want in a fitness class though since it's up to me to decide what class I want to teach. I was thinking of a fitball class.  Using the fitness ball in various exercises to build the muscles of both the upper and lower body and abs.  I also want to teach some kind of cardio class, but not just step or kickboxing, something different!

Okay, so here's what I need to know: Would you be interested in taking my fitball class if you were a student?  And what would you look for in a class?  What would make a good class? Any past experince with new/fun exercise classes? Thank you for ANY info you can give me on the subject!

i think a fitball class would be great, that is something i have always been interested in and would love to learn....

i took a phenominal abdominals class- dont laugh, it was AWESOME, and she (illegally) gave us printouts of hte exercises- it was an awesome way to practice/work out at home, and i really appreciated it...

that's all i can think of for now, i don't really work out that much to know more!

Oh, OOOO, I just got the BEST idea! Sorry, I get so excited about fitness.  A 30 min. plyometrics class.  For those of you who have done plyometrics before, wouldn't 30 minutes of it be crazy?! What a good workout. I'm going to pitch it to my boss. Please still give me ideas though!

I think mainly girls take fitness classes.  I think that they are mainly interested in abs.  So I would look for things that would target that area.  What you are thinking of sounds good.  Personally I really like pilates classes and loved taking them at the university.

I would love to learn all the exercises for a fitness ball!  I only do crunches on them and boy do they hurt!  Can you do leg exercises with the ball?  That would be useful too I think.  I think you should also show some good stretches after your workout or on the ball- I never feel like I know how to stretch properly.

My favorite class I take is sports conditioning.  It includes a lot of plyometrics, so maybe this is already what you are thinking.  The class usually involves drills with a lot of jumping, squats, push ups etc.  All you would really need is cones, ladder and maybe a medicine ball or two.  If you need more of a description feel free to pm me.

this frightens me.  what is plyometrics?  i like the fitness ball idea.  i would like a class that targets women's "problem areas"- abs, butt, thighs

I like class that combine cardio and toning.  My favorite class at my gym is a 90 minute class that is 45 minutes of spinning and then 45 minutes of toning using either hand weights, a bar, or our own body weight.  We then stretch.

My gym also offers rep reebok classes and I find those to be really fun.  When I was taking them consistently I could really see the changes in my body.

I think a fitball class would be really cool.  I also still really like Step, but now that it isn't as popular as it was in the 90's, it is really hard to find a good instructor.

For me, the instructor is just as important as the class content.  The instructor should be knowledgable and able to adjust the activities to people w/ different fitness levels.  I also like an instructor that is enthusiastic, but not over the top.  Finally, I hate it when it is clear that the instructor didn't plan for the class, like she's coming up with it all on the spot.  It just ruins the flow of the work out.  I don't think you need to worry about that stuff, you are going to be a great instructor!!

all these ideas sound great!  but also, the thing that motivates me most in class (besides my best friend) is the MUSIC.  i love love love all the high energy dance music my step instructor plays and when it's going so fast and furious, i forget how tired i am because i'm just so focused on the music and remembering all the choreography and moving to the beat.  anyway, that's all cardio related obviously.  i have to admit i don't know what plyometrics is so i'm not sure if fast dance music is the way to go for that.

good luck and you are going to be a fabulous instructor!
