here's last years post:
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=44784&p=3&topicID=23375389

my post from last year:
"i didn't accomplish much on my list from last year... the one thing i did was #3, wear jewelry more often but i didn't buy any new jewelry. oh, well, i guess i'll just continue on with the hopes of reaching these goals this year! so:
1. get out of the tshirt and jeans rut
2. wear skirts and dresses more often
3. buy more jewelry
4. try posting a few oufits on stylethread

i really should print this out and hang it in my closet so i have no excuses next year! lol"

i actually wore a lot more skirts and dresses this year, especially in the summer and i did manage to get some pictures of my outfits and post them on here, so i feel like i accomplished some of my goals.
this year, i plan to:
1. buy more jewelry/accesories, i still have hardly any
2. take more risks, fashion wise. i feel like i've started doing this lately by giving in to the skinny jeans trend. (and actually wearing them!)

I was still a lurker at this time last year, so here's my 2020 style resolutions.

1) Wear heels more often. I tend to be attracted to heels in the store, then wear my flats most days. So I want to wear the heels that I have more often.

2) Try to work skirts and dresses into my work wardrobe. It's a casual office so I wear nice jeans most days. Our busy season is starting next month and I want to try to dress up a bit more when the clients are in for their yearly appointments.

3) I am still on my quest to find a well fitting trench, a great pair of nude pumps and a pair of white jeans that I look good in. I will not give up hope!

4) I will remember that fit is more important than color, fabric or price. If it doesn't fit perfectly or can't be reasonably altered to fit perfectly, I won't buy it. I did pretty good on that this year and hope to continue it through out 2010.

Last year:

For 2009:
-wear heels more
-try and define my style
-Figure out how to curl my hair
-eat less salt

(well I put explanations in at the time but those were the main ideas!) I did OK. I definitely wear heels more. I am still struggling with my personal style. I sort of figured out how to curl my hair at its longer length - I still don't like it curled as much now as I did when my hair was shorter, and I've accepted that it's just a product of the new length. I don't know how I did on salt - I eat less salt at breakfast/lunch now but I think I've increased it for dinner!

For 2010 I want to:

-Wear less cutesy stuff. Sometimes I dress way too cute and I don't know why, but then I don't feel like myself all day.
-accessorize more
-wear more makeup. I don't want to go overboard but I can get into these phases where all I wear for weeks on end is some mascara. And I'm too pale not to add SOME color to my face!

I have 2 this year:

-  Buy fewer things.  I read a blog post that made me look at buying things differently, and I really want to begin only allowing things into my wardrobe if they have significant purpose there.  Like they're auditioning for some really awesome production, and only the highest quality talent gets a part in the show!

-  Be honest.  If I don't like something I won't wear it, and if I love something I will wear it, regardless of what anyone else says.  Life is just to short to listen to what other people think of what you have on, unless they're trying to tell you that something is hanging out that shouldn't be, of course.

Last Year

Replace what's aging.

Uh, kind of. A few things. I give myself a C-.

Have some things altered.
Fail. I have excuses, but they're bad ones.

Keep buying only black/white/gray
A, except for a red top for an 80s party.

Keep up the thrift store junkets.

A. I didn't buy myself hardly anything new except for shoes and a bag.

Do less online shopping.
A. I did a little, but was more selective.

Add a good totebag to my life, and use smaller purses.

D+. I didn't get a totebag, but my current purse isn't too big nor too bulky, so it's kind of a wash.

Wear my contacts more often.
B+.

Redux 2010

Replace what's aging (especially black trench or equivalent and heeled knee-high boots)

Have some things altered - or replace them with things that fit.

Get a nice tote.

And

Get a real haircut/style. I think I say this every other year and I never do.

- Wear pants more (not counting jeans). I think I only wear pants like 1-2 days a year.
- Set a clothing budget and stick to it
- Lose 20 lbs

(2009)
1. Watch the prints
, especially on tops.  I notice that prints don't always look so great on me.  I plan to relegate prints primarily to skirts and keep them minimal up top.
-
CHECK - I did pretty well on this.  No new prints up top.  It is unfortunate because I didn't add any on the bottom either. I had little interest in fashion this year, but I feel my old self coming back.

2. Keep using cardigans to stretch wardrobe
- CHECK - Cardis helped me a lot for work this year.  I'll keep this up, but also incorporate some casual jackets and sweater jackets.  The cardis often look a bit schlubby cuz I like the long ones.

3. Buy more simple, decent quality tees,  V-necks, boatnecks, and slight scoops look best on me.  I love wearing them, so I need to remind myself to stock up and stop relying on just a few to get by.
- Partial success - I did slightly better, but not as well as I need.

4. Buy fewer
items made with Viscose blends (aka: wussy fabric).  I'm sick of throwing away clothes with holes in them.
- Success - I did well.  Need to remember to buy fabrics other than cotton.  I had to go out for a nice dinner, and everything I own was some variation of a tee!

5. Assemble at least 3 evening outfits that will always be waiting for me throughout the year.  No more trying to put things together at the last minute, and no more squeaking-by with my too-casual wardrobe.
- * loud, obnoxious loser-buzzer sound* I did horribly on this.  Ugh.

thumbsup.gif
* BONUS * I upgraded my bra and undies collection!  I bought 8 new bras at once, and I love having them around -- ready to go whenever I need them.

(2010)
I am going to actually plan my wardrobe.
I
have a few books and sites in my wishlists, with which I will sit down, identify my style, plan a healthy budget, and figure out what I need and want to buy.

I'll determine where to spend, where to save, and how I will go about replacing items in the future.  I'm always reactively buying stuff on short notice.  That impromptu purchase might work for this Saturday night, but it fails me at other times of the year.

I will have alterations performed on more clothes.
Tom Ford told me to do this, and I'll do just about anything he says.

That's all I can think of for now.

For 2009: All in all I give myself a B-
1. Stop buying shoes I don't need. I have WAY too many and I buy them just because they are cute. I need to reel it in. Failed miserably. I did get rid of some shoes, but I bought more.

2. Replace basics but buy less in general. I have enough clothes, it's time to wear them all.
I did okay until I lost some weight and rewarded my self with some clothes.

3. Stick to my plan of only buying certain colors and avoiding unflattering cuts. I did this one!

4. Since I'll be job hunting in the new year, I will buy pieces that are interviewy and help build a more professional wardrobe. My current place of business is pretty laid back about dress code as long as I leave my jeans at home.
Nailed it!

For 2010:

1. Stick to my color scheme.
2. Try something different from my norm at least 1x a week.
3. Look more polished when I'm dressed casual.

Alright guys! We're a few months in to 2010! How's everybody doing?

For me:

-wear less cutesy stuff: I'm sort of doing well at this. I *am* starting to tone down/toughen up my cutesy outfits, but I'm also feeling more comfortable wearing them in the first place so it doesn't bother me as much.
-accessorize more: I'm doing pretty well at this! I try to make a conscious attempt at adding 1 or 2 more accessories than 2009 Kelly would have put on. Sure, sometimes it's just simple stud earrings or a plain ring but it adds a bit more polish for sure!
-wear more makeup - eh, I go back and forth on this. I haven't really added much to my daily routine but I do wear more on the weekends than I used to. So 1 or 2 days a week is still an improvement right??

Hmmmm.....

SO! For 2009:

*I WILL find myself a nice handbag for about $100.00! *SAD, I never did find, NOR DID I LOOK for that bag. Maybe I'll do so this year! LOL*

*Dress better on the weekends in the WINTER (I'm FINE, and usually in dresses, in the Summer). In the Winter, I just eh. LOL I really just throw on a track suit/t-shirt and be done w/it. I think jeans/nice shirt sounds good, or SOMETHING better!!! *Didn't change much, hell, too chilly-fer to have my legs out!*

*Take better care of myself. I'd LOVE to go to a salon, and let someone else PAMPER me (hands, nails, etc.). Yeah. I like that. :) *Uh. Yeah. I'mma have that done REAL SOON!*

*STILL need to buy more going out clothes. I may go out once a month, and I ALWAYS have a hard time trying to find something to wear..... Grr. *NOPE, never happened, unless it was a cute shirt, that's it!* LOL

*ONLY buy jewelry that I LOVE, and I KNOW I'll wear. STILL LOVE MY EARRINGS!!! *Hmmm....I did pretty good, I still LOVE my jewelry, but have DEF. slowed down on just BUYING every cute pce of jewelry I see! LOL*

I'll add 2010 later....disbelief

UPDATE:

I haven't done much shopping, so only buying in the color scheme has been easy.

Most of the time I am trying something a bit new. I am experimenting more with my accessories and layering more and really just taking the extra time to go the extra mile.

As for looking more polished when dressign casual, it's a toss up. I find myself spending more time with a VERY casual friend, so I am failing some there. But, an effort is being made. And, having this as a reminder, I'm sure I'll pick up more steam now.

1) It's a toss up.  I wore heels most of the beginning of tax season (I run an office for 2 CPAs) but the 10 hour days on my feet were killing me in heels.  So now I'm back to flats until the season is over and I go back to a normal schedule of 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.

2) Yeah, that was a FAIL.  Tried once or twice, but I have to carry heavy crates of files and the like all over for these guys.  Skirts were not working.

3) Found a great navy trench at an after Christmas sale marked down to $40 from $158!  Wore it for the first time last Sunday.  Still looking for the nude pumps and white jeans.

4) I haven't been shopping since New Years, but the few pieces that I have gotten fit well and I'm happy with them.
