i can't believe they are releasing this woman. twelve years in prison definitely isn't enough. the first link is about the release, the second, more information regarding the murderers.

Oh My God. I couldn't even read past the first page. That is absolutely psycho. Why on earth did she only get 12 years?!?

I agree that it is rediculous that she is being released.  I was watching the CBC's report on her last week, they showed clips of a lot of the interviews she did w/ the police.  I was yelling at the tv "can't they see how crazy she is."

bex - her husband, paul bernardo, will be in jail for the rest of his life.  karla struck a deal w/ the canadian gov't that she would testify in court against her husband in exchange for her shorter sentence.  she really played herself as a victim/abused wife who was forced into helping.  although, it is confirmed that her husband physically abused her, further evidence, specifically videotapes of the killings, suggested that she was a willing participate in the torture and killings of the girls.  part of the controversy is that many think her deal should have been revoked when this new evidence became available, but some psychologists still stick with their original assessment that she was a battered wife forced thru physical and psychological abuse to participate.

if you read the article in full it goes into some detail on some of the out of the norm things she's done in prison.  personally, i think she's crazier than a shit house rat.  while i'm not sure that she's a danger to society, i don't think she's properly paid for her crimes.

i hadn't heard of her before, but reading about what she did is gruesome.  i wonder if she will even survive outside of prison (i.e., survive people who may want to take vengeance for her crimes).  i found an entry about her at wikipedia.com:

this is all the stupid Canadian govt's fault. They were so desperate to convict Paul Bernardo that they did not really consider what would happen with Karla Homolka and just struck the deal, thinking that they could take it back and rectify it later. She has not been the least bit rehabilitated and is likely to offend again. How you could rape and murder your own sister is beyond me. She (Homolka) was quoted in the paper saying that her sister "would have forgiven her for what she had done". I highly doubt that.

Anyway, it has been a very hot topic lately and pretty much the whole country is sick over it. I suspect that "something" will happen to her once she is out. Either she will just disappear or "vigilante justice" will come into play. Regardless, I doubt you will see her walking down the street in Scarborough.

This is freaking unbelievable.  This kinda stuff doesn't even happen in the movies.  That b*tch is crazy; I wouldnt want her walking the same streets as me.  It really facinates me that there are people out in the world like this.

She got released, yeah, at least she got SOME limitations on her freedom though. Better then nothing I guess.

Oh my god.  I never heard of this woman before but I just read that whole crimelibrary.com article and she is freakin' evil.  I can't believe she killed her own sister and also helped her husband rape and kill those other girls.  I'm surprised she wasn't scared for her own life.  How do you lay down next to someone that just killed someone?  For both of them, really.  Do her parents talk to her?  I know it said somewhere in the article that her father said she wasn't moving back to her town.  Does he just know this or is he in touch?

I was visiting my father who lives in toronto during the trial and i just remember thinking she was one f-d up woman to not only do what she did, but to do it to her own sister.
