Which boots do I keep?
Permalink Closed

I've been hunting for knee-high boots for years, and finally found a pair.  Then I found another pair!  I can only keep one though, and I need your help deciding if I should keep one or return both and keep looking.  Ready?

Pair #1

These are from Target, $40.  Not real leather obviously, but well-made and fit nicely.  A little bunching at the ankle.  I like these alot with tights and dresses/skirts, but I'm concerned that they won't hold up well.  They have a nicely incorporated stretch panel at the back of the boot, which makes them really flexible on the calf.

Pair #2

These are Sudini, $100 at Nordies but I had a $45 GC, so cost to me is $55.  Real leather.  Some bunching at the ankle.  I like these better with pants tucked, but with tights, the pulls on each side of the boot stick out a bit and it doesn't look as clean as the Target pair.  I'm sure these would wear nicely, but the soles are hard and loud when I walk, which I may need to get fixed before it drives me crazy.  These are a little more restrictive on my calf, so they aren't quite as comfortable on the leg.

So, what do I do?  The fit is almost identical when they're on.  I guess I could always get the pull straps on the Sudini pair tacked down a bit so they don't stick out as much?  Thoughts?  Should I return both of these and find something that works with pants and skirts equally well?

I think the nordies ones will hold up better. I'd go with them.

though it does sound like you like the target ones a bit better, and if you do, I'd stick with them, Im sure they will last at least a season or two.

Do you have something else you could use your GC for?

It seems like you have a lot of complaints about the Nordies pair so is the real deciding factor the fact that you don't think the target ones will hold up well? If you like the Target ones better, I say get them. Even if they just last one winter, that's a whole extra year to find the boots of your dreams that will wear well.

Yeah, you're both right.  I just hate paying full price for non-leather boots that are only slightly less expensive than actual leather boots.  If the Target pair were real leather my boot soul search would be forever complete!

Maybe I'm just putting too much pressure on one pair of boots.  Ideally I'd like to have one pair of tall black boots that looked just as good with pants as with skirts and dresses.  I want some holy grail boots, apparently hmm.gif!

I agree.  It doesn't sound like you are in love with the Sudini pair.

I have 2 pairs of Target boots that I bought last year and they have held up really well.  I think that you can kind of just look at the Target boots and tell if they are going to last.  Do they look like they are decently made?  Are they stitched well?  What does the material feel like?  Stiff and cardboard-like or do they feel like leather (or close enough?)

I'd keep the Target pair and wear them out while you look for your Holy Grail boots without pressure. There should be sales a-plenty at the end of the season.

IMO you have too many complaints about the Sudinis to keep them, and I like the look of the Target ones better anyway.

It sounds like you may have made up your mind, but I have a pair of Sudini boots, similar to the ones you posted, and they are super comfortable, and they have held up great.  I wore them a lot last winter and plan to this winter again.  They still look great.

I think you should keep both - you found 2 pairs of boots for less than $100 - both serve your purposes and are so classic they will never go out of style.

I agree with the suggestion to keep the Target ones and keep looking for a perfect pair. I really like the styling on the Target ones, too.
