Downside of Jergens Natural Glow
Permalink Closed

So I've been using Jegerns Natural Glow for a couple of months, and it's given me great color. Everyone comments on how tan I am. However I've noticed a couple things that aren't that great about Jergens.

1) If you go swimming it will come off. I've been swimming a couple times this summer, and I noticed that the clorine washes of the the Jergens tan, leaving a spotty tan behind. I was in the pool for 30min to an hour, and the tan came off.

2) It fades horribly. Very weird looking, almost like I have that skin disorder where the pigment leaves the skin. Yeah it's kinda ugly.

So if there is anyone left who hasn't tried JNG, these are some of the downsides of the stuff. Plus the weird smell everyone is always talking about. However, it has some good color I guess. Right now I'm trying to get back to my natural color.

Unfortunately, I've noticed the two negatives you mention w/any self tanner I've ever used.  It always washes off in chlorine and it all fades bad in experience.  Why can't there be an easier way to get tan?

I've had it for awhile in "fair" and kind of used it sporadically.  I used it two or three times for 4 or 5 days and it worked pretty quick.  I like the color it gives me.  FYI, I just found medium and it works well on me too, and I'm moderately fair.  Anyway, it does fade weird.  I hadn't used it for about a week and it stayed tan in unusual places.  There was a splotch on my foot that took forever to fade.  And a couple spots on my leg.  Just random places.  That being said, it's a great product, and I'll probably end up putting Jergens employees through college as long as they make the stuff (or until something better comes along)  I wish they would develop a product designed for faces, though.  I use it on my face, but it's just so sticky.

Cricket, have you tried the neutrogena build-a-tan face stuff?  I've been using it, and it took a few days, but it's giving me a nice color and I think it smells good.

Also, I use the endless summer gradual tan instead of JNG because the jergens was too yellowish for me, but it fades weird too.  Every few weeks I've had to quit applying, exfoliate it all off, and start over.  Such a pain.  It always comes off first on my inner elbows, so i walk around with my arms crossed to hide the freakness. . .

ejc, I haven't tried the face Build a Tan, but I do like the regular body Build a Tan.  I'll have to go out and get that today.  Thanks!

They seriously need to make a self-tanner that is chlorine-proof (of course, then it would probably eat through your skin like acid, so maybe that's not a good idea).  I finally got my hands on JNG in medium and I love it!!!  I have also used Neutrogena Build-a-Tan and that works well, too.  I'm so glad I'm not orange this summer from sunless tanner.

I got that with the Loreal spray tanner.  It was so embarrasing!  I have been using JNG for a couple weeks now and havn't noticed anything...yet.
