So we have this bed (Vendome from Crate & Barrel):
But we weren't into the matching nightstands. Originally we wanted to get antique nightstands, but we're having trouble finding any. And now DH is in love with this nightstand:
Which i do like, but am having trouble taking the mismatched wood plunge. I think that the different colors combined with the mismatch of styles (the sort of modified sleigh bed plus spindly-legged mid-century nightstand) is worrying me too.
So advice, opinions, etc.? Am I being crazy? I want an interesting house, which is why we didn't just buy the whole bedroom suite, and I have other rooms with different wood tones, but I'm just really hung up on this combo.
I know close to nothing about decorating. That being said, I generally don't like mixing wood tones especially as you said when they are different styles. Could you stain it to match the bed or anything like that?

I never match wood tones and I also mix styles and periods. And I like lots of different textures as well. It's the equivalent of eclectic dressing. You just have to do it right so it doesn't look silly.
That said, I'm not sure about that nightstand with that bed. Both are fine on their own, but the feel of them still seems almost matchy-matchy to me, but at the same time they don't seem like they work together because of it- it's like the nightstand is begging to be the same color wood as the bed in this instance (think hotel room). With that bed I'd pair something a little more antique-looking with more feminine lines so it creates interest and contrast. Not sure it that makes sense!

Ditto. I don't mind mixing wood tones if they're in the same color family (darks with darks, etc.), but I don't like it when they're that far apart, shade-wise. Plus, I don't really see those two styles looking good together, but maybe that's just me.

Mixing woods is fine, light & dark work together well, when both are warm tones, that's not the problem here. What I see that I like the bed, i like the night stands, but their styles do not work well. The night stands are more of a Norwegian contemporary design and the bed is very traditional modern. The wood colors are fine, but the styles don't work.

I don't like the combo. I'm not against mixing wood tones, but those two shades together don't work for me. Also if the style is going to contrast so much, I think being closer in color would help. Or white, or a painted finish in another color might be nice.
