any of you have this problem? My 2yr. old has been having this happen lately and I was wondering what I could do to help it not happen or anything I else I should know. This morning was the first time a blood clot came out too
thanks.......
oh, and he hasnt been sick, doesn't know how to blow his nose either.
Is the air very dry in your house? Sometimes that can cause nosebleeds, and if you think that may be the case, try using a humidifier in his room at night.
Other than that, I'm not sure. Does he have allergies?
I have a humidifier on in his room for his naps and all through the night every time. Yes he has allergies,....... but he hasnt been having the sniffles(sp?) recently. I talked to one of my friends and she has this problem with both of her kids, she says the doctor had told her its just something that happens to some kids more than others. Sucks!
oh tati, i really feel for you and your little guy...
when i was young i got nosebleeds all the time and for no apparant reason. i eventually outgrew them... say by 6th or 7th grade. i remember waking up in the middle of the night with them and my mom and dad bringing me a cold washcloth with ice to hold on it... i'd cry because all i wanted to do was sleep and they'd last for hours sometimes.
i don't think it's anything to worry about because it is common for some kids to get them, but maybe a call to your pediatricians office would be beneficial. get a little advice from a nurse on the best way to deal with them. (a cold washcloth with ice was what my pediatrician in the 70's recommended, i'm sure they've come up with something new to try since then)
good luck to you. i have a little 2-year old boy too and i keep my eye out for nosebleeds because of my bad experience as a kid. i don't know if it's genetic, but he hasn't had one yet, thank goodness.

My friends doctor did tell her its genetic, just thought I'd let you know that. Thanks for the info.
yup, my little one got it in the middle of the night and blood was everywhere, he was crying for help, thats the only reason I knew about it. and then at 6 in the morning he had another episode.
oh boy, if it's genetic we both might be going through this together in the near future.
i always remember it happening to me at night... maybe because that was the most traumatic for me since i was sooooo tired. i think that it must have happened during the daytime as well but i just don't remember that as clearly as the middle-of-the-night episodes.
I had tons of nosebleeds as a kid and they lasted pretty much until the beginning of high school. My doctor suggested that I put a little vaseline in my nose and that usually helped. It sounds gross, but I think it is a moisture thing and it worked well. You don't need to put a whole bunch just a little. HTH
