i don't have one, but i was thinking about eventually getting one (after i have kids). i wish i could help more, but i know a lot of doctors and nurses that i work with have them.

Not at all! I think they still do have a higher failure rate then, say, the pill. It might vary between the hormonal and non-hormonal varieties though.

I'm really interested in getting an IUD too. My girlfriend has the one with no hormones and says that when she gets her period it comes with a Heavy flow and lasts longer than it used to. Other than that she loves it. She also said that it hurt when they put it in her, like a piercing! I think I would want the one with hormones, .... I need to look into this more.
What I have been reading is that the one without hormones (Paragard) is safer than the one with (Mirena), however, the Paragard causes heavier periods.
Karina - is the hormonal IUD considered a higher risk than other hormonal BC? I was under the impression that the hormones were much lower in the IUD than in the Pill because they don't have to circulate around your entire body ...?

From what I read, the hormonal IUD still has the hormones that are absorbed into your bloodstream. I think I'm going with Paragard.
