Min'es pretty fine, but cut with layers so it looks thicker (and I use a BUNCH of thickening products) I was doing the hot roller thing for years (living in the south will do that to you) but I recently switched to a more sophisticated look - down to my shoulders, with a bit of wave from velcro curlers (can't gie them up COMPLETELY you know) and parted in the center - i like it, the center part brings out the shine
My hair is thick, curly, and long. It's to my mid back. I need to cut it. Anyway, I wear it down or half up the first day after I wash it, and then up in a ponytail or bun on the second day. I really know nothing about hair and this kinda works with minimal effort so I'm sticking with it.
Mine is very fine but think, and SO straight. It's about shoulder length with long layers around my face, and "fixing" it consists of blowing it out with a round brush to control the ends. When I'm at home, it's always in a ponytail or a long straight clip (like chop sticks kind of).
What I want to know from CarrieS, esquiress, and anyone else that said they pull theirs into a messy bun - I want to know how you do that? Define "messy bun" - how do you get it to stay? When I pull my hair up any way but a ponytail I feel like it's about to fall. I'd love to do something else with it, but I have no idea what.....

Hmm, my messy "bun" consists of me pulling my hair back, but somewhat loosely so my face-framing layers fall out. I basically put it in a pony tail, but don't pull the ends all the way through the elastic. Then, because my hair is layered, I start pulling out some of the hair from the half pony I have and re-tuck those ends back into the elastic. It makes some of the layers on the ends of my hair stick out and gives it a messy look.
It's kind of hard to describe, so I apologize if that description isn't that great. I'm going to try and have my brother take a few pictures of my hair today and then hopefully I'll post them, since my hair is in a messy bun today.
My hair being naturally wavy definitely helps with the messiness and that's usually the only time I pull it back. Sometimes I do pull it back when it's been straightened though.
