Ok, so many of you already know that I was in the process of changing careers to become a teacher when I was laid off last November. Well, I continued with my degree, completed both it and my student teaching, and have been searching for a job for this school year since last March.
I went to every possible job fair. I applied to over 30 suburban school districts. I applied to over 40 Chicago Public Schools. I physically walked in resume packets to 20 schools and mailed out another 25. I have done everything I could possibly do to find a job.
During that time I had one interview for which I never received any feedback and only found out that I wasn't in the running anymore because my friend got the job. I had another interview at a school that wanted to see me again, but I declined because I found out that more than 10 teachers were assaulted by students last year. The third school I interviewed with seemed promising. They called me back for a second interview less than an hour after I got home from my first. They loved everything I had to say in the second. They told me that they would make a decision in 2 days. 2 days turned into 2 weeks and I finally found out that they were extremely interested in me for the position, but the teacher decided not to leave after all. GAH! Today I had an interview and they offered me the job on the spot. I accepted. Then there was a problem when the Principal tried to staff me into the position. She called me later today to tell me that they cannot hire me because my certification is not appropriate for the role. (In her defense, she was super pissed and told me that if I ever need anything to let her know.)
So today one of my friends (that already has a job) told me that a school that I REALLY want to work at called him to see if he was interested in interviewing. I called the AP AND emailed her and she get back to me. She invited me in for an interview Friday afternoon. HOO-FLIPPIN'-RAY!
Ladies, please send good vibes, pray, or do whatever it is you personally do so that I land this job. I have wanted to work at this school ever since I met with the AP at a career fair in April. It isn't the best school in Chicago, but they are doing really good stuff for the kids there and I believe in their mission and vision. I have worked so hard for this and I just feel like all of this must have happened for a reason. Please, dear lord baby jesus, let me nail this interview and get this job.

I'll hope for you! I'm from Chicago so I know that someone who wants to teach as badly as you do would be an advantage for many of the kids in many of the schools. Fingers crossed!

Both my parents are retired Chicago Public School teachers, so my hat's off to you for wanting to teach so badly. The kids really need teachers like you. I'll keep all my fingers, toes and anything else I can manipulate crossed for you!
I GOT THE JOB! They offered it to me today and I start tomorrow. Talk about a whirlwind! Thanks for all of your thoughts, prayers, and good vibes girls: they obviously helped!!
