So my boyfriend and I want to take a vacation this somewhere to somewhere warm - a beach or tropical enviroment. We don't want to spend too much money, so we are looking for good deals. Does anyone have suggestions on destinations (it can be outside the U.S, probably preferable that it is) or know of any good places, websites to find good deals?
Have you tried booking an all-inclusive? I think those are the way to go when you don't want to deal with all the details and/or have to stay within a budget. Mexico is relatively cheap to go to. You should check that out--try Puerto Villarta (sp?) or Cozumel. I LOVE Cozumel! I don't know about current prices, but I went a few years ago with my BF and it was originally over $700 each for five days/four nights and then it dropped to $600 each. It is a tiny island and there is a lot to do. You can go snorkeling/scuba diving and then lie on the beach all day or you can party too. You can rent a car and drive to the opposite side of the island and find your own stretch of beach to chill out on. IMO, Cozumel is way better than Cancun, which is way too Americanized. Try Funjet or Apple Vacations for all-inclusive vacation packages. I would recommend going thru a travel agent, but that is your preference. Let us know what you decide on!
jacL - I thought an all-inclusive would be the way to go too. I don't think either of us want to go to Mexico though. I went to Cancun a few years back and hated it. It was horrible. I know you said Cozumel is better, but does anyone have any suggestions besides Mexico. My boyfriend really wants to go to Jamacia, but I think that's going to be really expensive, right?
I saw a lot of all inclusives to the Dominican Republic that were extremely well priced (500-600 pp including air for 7 days). I really wanted to go but my dumb FH let his passport expire.
Dominican Republic is really great. We have a house there and it such a cool place to go.
Punta Cana is the town we go to. There is cool resort there that was decorated by Oscar De La Renta. He also had some say in the design too. Punta Cana Resort. The water and beaches are clean by the resorts, and the town has some neat things to do. They have this really great Itallian resturant. The use hamburger buns to make garlic bread- sooo good.

I am just wondering if you want to go somewhere tropical (meaning the carribean or mexico) in the summer months. I hear that is hot and muggy, and they have lots of bugs. Personally, I would say that Florida in the summer is pushing it. I know people that have houses there that avoid it like the plague in the summer!
You might want to try the Outer Banks in NC. It is not unbearably hot in the summer, it has a "tropical" "real-beach" feel, and it is absolutely gorgeous. Its generally pretty cheap.

We are defintely staying away from Florida in the summer! It is wayyyy too hot and humid there. As far as going to the Carribean or Mexico in the summer - we've both done that before and it's fine. He really wants to go to Hawaii or Jamaica, but I think both may be out of our price range.
Does anyone know any good resources or websites in finding cheap trips/deals?

Yes, it is hot and muggy in the summer months, but since you are on vacation, you don't (well, I don't) usually do much during the day besides sit by the pool or the beach or watersports, so I don't have a problem with it.

I have found as long as you are by the water it is not that bad. We go down to Florida in the summer and it okay when we are hanging out on the beach, but once you get inland it is pretty bad. The breeze off the water keeps it tolerable.

I agree, don't go to FL, I live down here, and it is already unbearable with the heat. It is so gross. I like the idea about the outer banks, I always wanted to go there.
Try www.libertytravel.com you can search by location and if you want all inclusive it will let you search for just AI Hotels. I have been doing some research for a vacation in January, and for January the cheapest place to go is the Dominican Republic. Depending on the time of year you want to go there are good deals out there right now, especially if you are going in the summer. I went to Punta Cana in August and it was great I would go back again.
