I have been getting this once in a while during the pregnancy - FH says it's asthma... I feel like I have a bunch of mucus stuck in my throat, and it doesn't go away, even after I clear my throat uncontrollably. I cough like a smoker and have trouble breathing. I've had this feeling since about 6pm yesterday. He said that since I had the windows open all day yesterday, I'm getting some type of allergy induced asthma?
I have allergy induced asthma, but when I have attacks my lungs are completely dry (too dry in fact) and I wheeze my lungs sort of whistle because everything is so dry and tight in my chest. I did have problems with my asthma a few years ago when I had bronchitis and it sounds like more of what you are describing (not that you have bronchitis, but illness related asthma symptoms). I would check it out with a doctor, asthma manifests itself in a lot of different ways. HTH
I've had asthma and really bad allergies for around 20 years. My attacks tend to be like the kind mckenke has (dry, tightness, audible wheeze) but whenever I get a cold, even a minor one, I will have the symptons that you describe too.
But everyone is different. When you are having an asthma attack your body often starts to produce more mucus so it's possible that is what you are experiencing. I very rarely have asthma attacks brought on by environmental allergies (dust, mold, pollen, etc.), mine are usually caused by being around animals or having a cold, but you could be reacting to pollen or something in the air.

I have never been pregnant so I have no idea if that hurts your situation..
but I have what is called Cough-induced Asthma. I cough exactly like you described and feel the same way. It tends to act up during regular allergies seasons to. I would go to a respiratory doctor and get it checked. I have a ton of inhalers, but they still dont help like I think they should. Unfortunately, there isnt a perfect cure for that type of asthma I dont think.
Well, I've know quite a few people who have gotten pregnancy induced asthma - something about breathing for two/decreased lung capacity and your body being in overdrive and working harder than normal and therefore producing more of everything (lung mucuous included).

My allergies were worse when I was pregnant, I never experience Asthma, but I did have awful congestion.
I know a little about allergies, I used to work for an allergy and asthma specialist and I listened to their advice.
But yes yes yes, I bet having the windows open (in your house, right?) probably made the difference, all those allergen spores are now attached to fabrics and are in your hair, and if you didn't wash your hair before bed, your sheets and pillowcases. Close those windows in the house and when you drive the car (saves gas anyway, even with ac on, more aerodynamic). So wash your sheets again and do a thorough vacuum if you feel up to it. You might try having your air ducts cleaned, I did this recently and I really felt like my house air was cleaner.
I took Loratadine (Claritin) 10 mg while I was pregnant, plus Sudafed, if not already taking an antihistamine plus decongestant, ask your obgyn if ok. I can skip them every now and then, but when I was pregnant, I took them every day because my allergies were so much more sensitive.
