holy crap, this is the first i've heard about this, and it's so sickening. that teacher should get his ass kicked.
when we did dissection in high school it was the same kind of thing that mia described, with boys trying to make the dead frogs dance and throwing organs around. i don't remember anything about what we learned except that the room absolutely stank from whatever they'd had the animals preserved in. i've since read that there are computer programs that show you exactly what's inside a frog as a virtual dissection. more schools should use that.
Interesting opinion piece in The Salt Lake Tribune about what lessons we teach kids when we're cruel to animals... reminded me a bit of the piece someone posted a bit back about abandoning beloved pets at animal shelters. Also, according to this piece, apparently when some of the kids complained, the teacher told them the just needed to be able to "handle it."
It just breaks my heart to read that. I would have personally kicked the sub in the nuts to protect that dog. It is just sickening to think that anyone would think this was ok.
