Stella McCartney and H&M are happy to announce their collaboration for the autumn 2005 season. Stella McCartney will design a women's wear collection of around 40 items to be produced and distributed by H&M under the label "Stella McCartney for H&M".
Stella McCartney comments: "Designing a one off collection for H&M is one of the most exciting and innovative ways to introduce my clothes to a broader range of women."
Following the highly successful limited-edition collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld for autumn 2004, the "Stella McCartney for H&M" line is a one-time collection that will be available at H&M stores in November. The collection will be sold in selected H&M stores across Europe and North America.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with Stella McCartney," says H&M Head of Design, Margareta van den Bosch. " Her designs are modern and cool yet classic and wearable. We have long admired her sense of tailoring and femininity. Consumer research further confirmed the strong appeal of her brand. We are looking forward to bringing our customers this unique collaboration this autumn."
Stella McCartney launched her eponymous label in 2001 as a joint venture with Gucci Group. The brand already includes a successful range of women's ready-to-wear, accessories, fragrance, eyewear as well as an acclaimed performance range with adidas. The Stella McCartney brand is distributed in 43 countries and operates three flagship stores in London, New York and Los Angeles.
Founded in Sweden in 1947, H&M is synonymous around the world with affordable as well as up-to-date and high quality fashion. H&M has a wide product range that is divided into a number of different concepts for women, men, teenagers, children and cosmetics. The company's clothing collections are created by its own designers, pattern makers and buyers. H&M has more than 45,000 employees and around 1,100 stores in 21 countries.
That's really cool, although there are no H&M's anywhere near me. grrr. I heard the Karl Lagerfeld ones flew off the racks super fast. They were going for like 3 times as much on ebay. It is kinda sad because then it isn't really "accessible" as much as intended. That's capitalism for ya.
Toronto? Hmmmm...November is cheap flight time, too.
I am WAY more excited about this than the Karl Lagerfeld collection. Did that sell out immediately? Do I remember people on here saying they never even saw any pieces it sold out so fast? I bet the Stella M stuff sells out even faster. She did some pieces for Adidas this year and they sold out right away and are now going on eBay for above retail (and they are great, too).
Would a store like H&M do waitlists? Would there be any way to see the pieces before they actually went on sale?

i think there was a lot of hype. it didn't sell out immediately and some of the stuff ended up on clearance racks. also, and i know lagerfeld caught a lot of flack for this, the sizing seemed off. in general i think h & m cuts stuff on the large side so a lot of the stuff imo ended up looking kind of shapeless and blah. so i kind of see the point (not agree with) he had about the sizing issues. also i hope stella does colors other than black b/c that's all karl did, and i'm not the biggest fan of black. also i'm not sure if h&m does waitlists, but i think you'll probably be able to preview the stuff b/f hand like in a mag. also let me know closer to time and i'll be more than happy to scope out/pick up stuff for you.
Some of the Lagerfeld ended up on clearance racks? Nope, I didn't know that. I think I must have believed the hype there. :)
Does H&M have a N American flagship store? I really don't know anything about them because there aren't any stores around here. I think of them as kind of similiar to the British Topshop chain.
I'll def. bring this up again before Nov., I am totally intrigued to see what Stella M does. I know she takes flack for apparently being a rich girl with no talent, but I actually think she's one of the few high-end designers whose clothes are wearable by real people.
Thanks for posting, honey!

Ahhh!!!!! This kills me!!! I love Stella stuff (but my wallet doesn't) This sucks that there is no H&M here! I've been waiting for years. Will someone tell them that L.A. & O.C. NEED and H&M?
