giving up soft drinks

I have been really terrible the past couple of years about drinking too much Diet Mtn Dew and Diet Coke. I quit today and am drinking only water with that lemonade mix that you pour in it. The mix has no fat, no calories, no sodium. The only thing it has is 30 mg of potassium. I know I will feel better, but do you think I should see a reduction in bloatedness?

I gave up soda (i used to drink diets) a couple of years ago and never noticed a difference in anything!

But I love that I gave that junk up!

and kudos to you for giving it up also!

What kind of sweetener is in the lemonade mix? Have tried just squeezing a bit of lemon into your water instead?

I believe what will bloat you from soft drinks is the carbonation. At least for me, when I stop drinking soda I feel less bloated...however...artificial sweetener (splenda etc) will make me feel extremely bloated and if your lemonade has it in it, that might be the problem.

Congratulations, that's HUGE! I promise you will quickly lose the taste for the artificial junk. Do check the sweetener used - chemical sweeteners are really ick for your body.

I used to drink Diet Pepsi like WATER. Several at work, 2-3 glasses at home. I stopped buying em and now drink mostly water and I haven't found ANY change in weight, bloatedness, etc. However we all know its better for you so kudos!

I had never head that artificial sweetner could bloat you.  I will look and see what this drink mix has.

I gave up soft drinks years ago and have never regretted it. I drink mainly water, Crystal Light and coffee/tea. You lose the taste for soft drinks pretty quickly and don't miss it. Now having a diet cola with a lemon in the summer is a big treat for me!

I didn't notice any difference in bloating or weight, but my skin did improve.

Everyone is different.  You may notice a difference if you replace the soda with fluids not containing as much sodium.  Who knows?  I say congrats on a more healthful lifestyle!

Reminder - Caffeine withdrawal can be really tough.  So, if you feel really icky over the next few days, it's probably that.  You may find that you need to reduce caffeine intake slowly if the symptoms become intrusive.

Green tea has a nice amount of caffeine for this type of change.  You could probably make some green tea, chill it, and pour some of the tea in your lemonade and just reduce the amount gradually.  If you don't like GT, you probably wouldn't taste it when paired up with the lemonade.  Best wishes for feeling better and to starting anew!
