I have to admit, I absolutely hated this look when I first saw it on Jennifer Aniston:

However, I tried the look myself and I love it!  I almost never wear my hair up but this is a good compromise that keeps hair away from the face, especially during the hot months.  Anyone else loving the trend?

I love the look, but I have absolutely no braiding skills whatsoever. I don't even know how to french braid. cry I tried doing a fishtail braid the other day (they even had directions in Cosmo) and it just didn't work out.

I'm doing it too. I did it recently when we took the girls to the waterpark and it worked great. I liked how it looked, and my hair was fine to go out to dinner after the pool.

what do you guys do with the ends?

ive read instructions to use a hair tie but i hate how juvenile that looks. I used to have small clear rubber ties that would work perfectly but lately Ive just been braiding it tightly to the ends and using a lil gel or hairspray to keep everything together.

I just secured them behind my ear with some criss-crossed bobby pins.  I'm just doing a little part in the front side and my bangs to the side so it's not too thick a chunk of hair to hold back.  Here's a blurry pic from the days at the waterpark of how mine came out...

I'm there with you. I would try this if I thought I could look anything close to sane, but I've never learned how to french braid and I feel like this isn't the style to learn on!

I actually think this is a pretty good style to practice with.  Your working with such a small section of hair it's easy to keep track of the adding of hair into the french braid.  There are some helpful youtube videos out there on how to do it too.

I've been wearing my hair like that too. I really like it since it's cute and easy to do.

wetbandit42, when I am in a hurry I do the twist braid technique. It is so much easier. Here is a link to a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=te8mi37ss5s

SO CUTE

I've got to try the twist braid bc I do spend like 25 mins braiding my hair when I do this look (esp with highlights, it tends to look funny depending on how you braid).

Can someone explain what goes on in a fishtail braid?  I watched some tutorials and I still can't figure it out!

I am, but I always have!  I have seriously thick, cranky hair so whenever water is involved a braid is too.  Most of the time I do two french braids leading to a messy-pony.

FISHTAIL:

I am reaching back to middleschool days, but I think it is as simple as this:

Divide hair into 2 sections

Take a small piece from the inside of one section and move it to the outside of the second section.

Now, starting the the section you just moved hair to, do the same thing and move hair from the inside of one bunch to the outside of the other.

I am unsure how to do this "french" though it will work with a ponytail.

Thanks for the youtube video! I can't wait to try this. I tried to do the french braid the other day, but it just didn't work out too well....hopefully this will work just fine :)

I am today! those videos really helped so I was able to do it so easily. Since my hair is really long and curly/wavy, I did a french braid (not the twist) and then gathered all my hair into a messy bun in the back.

I watched the video for the twist braid the other day and I've been sporting the look ever since. I'm hanging out at the lake and have been in and out of the water and this keeps my bangs back and I don't have to worry about them looking ridiculous. I'll also be sporting this at the gym this week! Yay!
