BC and acne
Permalink Closed

The next time I go to the Dr., I am going to have her switch my BC. Right now I am on Seasonique, and while I love only having my period 4x a year, one of the side effects is acne. I'm pretty sure it's been causing me to break out.

I've read that Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, and Yaz are all good at clearing up acne. Has anyone that is currently taking any of those noticed an improvement in their skin? Thanks!

I'm currently taking Yaz, and I'm loving it so far.  My skin is clearer and I've had almost no side effects from the pill.  Before that, I was on Ortho Tri Cyclen, and it was awful.  I had horrible water weight bloating, constantly hungry, swollen/tender boobs, headaches, moodiness, etc.  My doctor didn't switch me to OTC Lo because that one isn't known to help acne as much.  So my advice is to give Yaz a try.  It's a lower hormone dose than OTC.

Ortho Tri Cyclen was good for clearing up acne, but it made my Melasma worse. Melasma is that dark pigmentation on the skin. I am not on a birth control now, but I wanted to give you the heads up if using BC for the purpose of clear skin...there might be a drawback.

It's been several years ago, I have found the forums on this site helpful: http://skincarerx.com/phorum/index.html

I once used Ortho Tri Cyclen for a few days  - it gave me the most horrible migraines. Yaz was very good for me, stopped it, since it's not covered by my insurance, but I use something similar in content, generic...

I am on the generic for Ortho Tri Cyclen and I have had no side effects (I have been on it now for 1 1/2 years). I never really had bad break outs just an occassional pimple usually around the time I got my period. However, now that I am on this bc I have not had a pimple since. (Great...now I just jinx myself)

Thanks for the opinions!

After further research, I'm not sure if I'd be able to use a triphasic pill (like OTC). I already think I have emotional problems, and I think the change in horomones throughout the pack would make me a crazy moody mess, though I suppose I could try it. I think I might try out Yaz. I'll ask my Dr. if OTC could work too.

Thanks for the link to the forum, blink!

I switched to YAZ a year and a half ago.  My skin is somewhat clearer, and I've lost 10 lbs!
