I believe it is for removing traces of cleanser, etc that didn't come off with rinsing. I just like the way it feels. The one I use is papaya and I love the smell. Maybe it is just a habit......?? Good question!! I will be interested to see other answers.
Toner does rinse any trace of cleanser off, it also restores the ph balance of your skin and some toners help to control oil or moisturize, depending on what kind you use.
I was taught that when you cleanse it opens your pours & toner closes your pores. The whole "make up removal" thing never really made sense to me since, isn't that why you cleanse? I do agree with the "ph balance" comment though - or at least that's what they told me in Mary Kay classes for years & years. And when I use toner, that's what I always think of, my pores closing.

I asked the Dior make-up girl last Thursday when I had my make up done (and spent an outragous amount of $$$) and she also said that it's to close your pores. All this time I've been using toner and not really knowing why.
I like never used toner, but closing pores peaks my interest. Can anyone recommend a good toner? I have pretty average skin, not too sensitive or oily.
