Kill Hannah - For Never and Ever (this album is 2 years old, but they are working on a new one. I love this band, go to their website - www.killhannah.com and listen to them before you buy - it may not be for you).
Bright Eyes - so fab! Rilo Kiley - not new but still good The Shins - Oh Inverted World is the best one Kaiser Chiefs - songs make me laugh Kelly Clarkson - totally like her new album Burden Brothers - lead singer of Toadies new band Janis Joplin - not new by any means but always good for a revisit I forgot the Raveonettes!! Their new album dropped Tuesday and they are soooo cool.
Those are my main rotations right now. What kind of music do you like?
i think the new Hot Hot Heat album came out (or maybe it's next week)--anyway, i have heard one or two tracks and they are good. if you are not familiar with them, they are part of that neo-80s kind of thing (like the Bravery, Killers, Kaiser Chiefs).
it's not new, but i don't know why i waited so long to get Keane/Hopes and Fears--it's really good. i just got it and have listened to it a lot already.
i've been waiting (and have to keep waiting until June!) for the new Foo Fighters double-cd.
thanks for all the input ladies! i knew i could count on you guys. the new beck is already on my list as soon as i can get to the record store. (hence the reason for the question, i'm trying to do some one stop shopping) and i'm probably going to pick up kaiser chefs and hot hot heat. also i'm considering bloc party, anyone have strong opinions on them either way?
bluebirde-- i usually listen to a lot of hip-hop/r&b, but i'm not really looking for suggestions in that genre, since i pretty much know already what i like in that area (but right now it's like nothing) i am definitely going to pick up some janis joplin.
jacL -- i think i'm going to get that damien rice cd, i've heard a lot about it and i know maddie also highly recommends it. two stylethreaders can't be wrong
shopchicago33 -- thanks for the link, i'm going to check out killhannah. and i love being able to preview stuff at home, as opposed to standing in the record store
esquiress -- i downloaded the howie day song. i like it!
lilykind, dc, & tara -- thanks for the suggestions too, i'm definitely going to look into them. do either of the artists have websites?
gypsyfreak -- i'm going to search around and see if i can preview some of the songs from the garbage album. i like a lot of their stuff, but i'm haven't heard any of their new stuff.
bumblebee -- i love MIA's album. i'm actually going to see her in concert in june and can't wait.

Cool - I'm glad you're going to check them out. Let me know what you think after you give them a listen. I live in Chicago and they are a Chicago band...their album For Ever and Never is one of those where there isn't a bad song on it. I listen to the entire thing over and over again. I'm sure they aren't for everyone, but I think they are really great. PM me after you listen to them and let me know what you think.

Good thing you're not looking for hip-hop/r&b suggestions because I didn't give you any! I suck at those kind of recs.
Did you pick up the Kaiser Chiefs after all? I just listened to the entire album again and it completely rocks. (There are a couple songs I skip through, but that's true for almost every cd I own.) I really like #1 (Everyday I Love You Less and Less) and #6 (Oh My God). They're my faves.
I almost bought Louis XIV the other day at Target (they have a cool little "breakout" section that usually has some random picks in it for cheap) but I'm trying to not go crazy with cds. (I have an addiction to buying mass amounts of records at one time.) I always have a whole host of new music I want to listen to after sxsw.
And I second Lilykind's Frou Frou rec. Details is a great album and everyone should adore it.
ugh, itunes has been my downfall! it's so easy to buy five records at a time with a couple mouse clicks, esp, when they only cost $10...
I love the new beck, love frou frou. Also check out the Thrills (those damn "the ____s" bands are getting confusing beyond belief)--they are irish (yay) and have this sweet, totally unexpected sound that completely channels beach boys and other feel-good CA music. I also have been listening to Patrick Park's record nonstop for months, but while his music is GORGEOUS it has definite country leanings so if you don't like that sound at all then don't bother. Oh and they're not new, but I will sing the praises of Death Cab for Cutie to anyone who will listen.
check out olu dara -- his 2 albums, Neighborhoods and In the World: Natchez to NY, are amazing. He's Nas's dad.
Here's a review from amazon.com:
Singer-trumpeter-guitarist Olu Dara has been knocking around New York City's jazz circles for almost 20 years. On "In the World" he embraces Caribbean rhythms, African highlife/socca riffs, and gut-bucket blues. Vaguely reminiscent of Taj Mahal's fanciful integration of world music and the blues, Dara consistently straddles urban and rural artistry. Sophisticated yet irresistibly down-home, this collection is festive, tuneful, and engaging. Songs like "Rain Shower" and "Natchez Shopping Blues" are clearly based in the American folk-blues idiom, while "Okra" and "Your Lips" are closer to an Afro-Cuban aesthetic. Dara's warm voice is limited but expressive, and his guitar playing fundamentally percussive. On the other hand, Dara's trumpet is unique and extremely lucid. This album comprises a fascinating tour of several musical cultures. --Mitch Myers
For those of you who have a cd habit like me, www.yourmusic.com is awesome. You commit to buying one cd a month at $5.99 with free shipping & handling. You can cancel any time and buy as many cd's at the price as you want. (Not like a BMG type membership) Box sets and double disks are super cheap too, b/c they literally charge $5.99 per disk. Can't beat it
recent releases: decemberists - "picaresque" pirate-y, very fun and enjoyable. this latest album helped me through 12 hours of driving home from vacation today. actually, i went to see them at the 9:30 club on friday, and the concert was aired on all things considered, which is archived on the npr website. (essentially, they played their new album, with a few other songs including a beautiful rendition of kate bush's "wuthering heights") sleater-kinney - "the woods" actually, i really recommend "dig me out" as well
otherwise, i am almost never disappointed with magnetic fields, fugazi, billy bragg, quentin tarantino soundtracks (esp jackie brown, but the kill bills are good). already mentioned, but the killers album is really good. more stuff that i am too lazy to link: the evens (fugazi-lite), q and not u (heavier indie rock with a nice beat), elliott smith (acoustic), quasi (various sounds, i like their birds album), mates of state (indie rock, heavy on the keyboards), the microphones, mirah (she has a beautiful voice!); etc. kill rock stars, k records and subpop usually put out decent stuff.
