pebble bathroom floor

I'm redoing a bathroom and am considering a pebble-type of floor:

anyone have any experience with it?  Any cons before I take the plunge?
TIA!

I like the look but wonder if it would be hard to sweep. With some slate tile it would be very zen spa, though.

It's really good traction for the shower floor.

I LOVE your bathroom, so much my style as well!!!!!!! Great backsplash & the sinks!!!!!!! Wood color - just perfect!
I love the look of the pebble floor in the bathroom, very zen/water/nature, I think the TAIPEI pebble would work better, then greys, since you have that deep green in back splash & TAIPEI pebble has a bit of green in it.

I love that look!  But all I can think of when I look at that is "Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow ....".  I stayed at a hotel that had that floor in the shower, and it was seriously my most painful bathing experience ever.  I'd stay away from any floor that is decently uneven - that includes that rougher-cut slate that varies in thickness from tile to tile.  It's just not comfortable to walk on barefoot at all, and has high toe-stub potential!

What about using the pebbles for the shower surround, backsplash, or even a border around the floor of the room, and then filling in the main floor with something easier on the feet?

No experience with that type of flooring, but it looks very cool! Very spa-like. How difficult do you think it would be to keep clean?

Is this going to be a DIY project? My hubby and I are considering incorporating this look into our master bath and hevan't decided how/where (flooring/accent/etc.). I love the look and am very interested in how it works out for you.

I love the way it looks, but like Elle, I can't help thinking it would be painful to walk on.

hey girls! i too love this look...my bf has this in his bathroom,
it is (more or less) completely smooth! he did it himself and usually just cleans it with a swifter wet, so all and all i think its easy to keep clean, i think an uneven one would be a total pain though

I'd put it in a place where you don't have to scrub the grout, like the backsplash. I too am worried about the feel under foot. Putting it around the edges of the floor, like a border could be cool.

I think "the pain level" depends upon the pebble, how flat/smooth it is, what's the average  size of it. We installed penny size ceramic round tile in the toddler's bath, you feel it when you step on it barefoot, but it's rather pleasant, not painful.
Also, will that pebble tile be on both the bath floor & shower floor or, just the bath floor & tile in the shower? Still, looks great!

I have one of those pebbled bathmats and I like it. I think it is a great floor for a bathroom! You could even make it look more natural if your stones are all a little bit different in color and size. Just be caeful if you're soing the shower because they can be slippery

Those floors are pretty.  I have stayed at beach house that had that floor in the shower.

I definitely felt the natural shapes and different levels that the river rocks create.  It didn't hurt, but it was slightly uncomfortable.  I can see how someone with cramped or sensitive feet would find it very unpleasant.

I recently re-did my bathroom, and this is one of the looks I considered. Because it's a bit of a personal preference look, I opted to go with something a bit more "standard" since I want to sell my condo at some point. However, I LOVE this look. If you're worried about the variations in texture being uncomfortable, I found a GORGEOUS alternative. My local fancy tile store had golden honey onyx that had been broken down into pieces and arranged on 12x12 mesh backing. You get the look of pebbles, but the tops of the stones are all flat and uniform, and the onyx has this gorgeous transparency. Anyway, something you could look into.

Just wanted to post an update - this is how it turned out (pic taken in July but I've been lazy to post it).
I've since gotten some artwork for it. Overall I'm happy with the results!
