designer jeans cost

I have developed a fascination with designer jeans, but I have a hard time getting past the prices.  How much will you pay for a pair of designer jeans and how do you justify your purchase to yourself?  This is a nosy question and if you don't want to answer, I understand, but I am in need of a little "spending" therapy

I have a few pairs- 3 AGs, 2 pairs of sevens and one pair of Mon Petit Oiseau jeans- I bought all of them on sale and have never spent over $100 on jeans!  I look for codes or try to find them on eBay after trying them on in stores like Nordstrom.  Goclothing.com has a 30% off code, so if you find a pair you like, try it on in a store and order it from there.  That way you can get jeans for around $100, which is my max.  I'll only go over that if they are a basic soft wash that I will wear almost every day.  I would pay more for my AGs because I wear them every day practically.  But I'm glad I didn't!  I want a new pair of straight leg jeans, so I am currently looking around for those.

iirc the most i've ever paid is appx $150. i've paid this amount twice. once for a pair of diesel jeans that i lusted after for a good 6 months b/f buying as a bday gift to myself. the other time for a pair of coh jeans when they first came out. i don't regret buying the diesels -- still love them. but the coh were a low self esteem purchase (wanted to buying something, they were the only jeans i could get over my thighs) and while i've gotten my money's worth, i don't love them like i should love a pair of $150 pants.

as a general rule of thumb, i have no qualms spending money on a good pair of pants (jeans included) but i've gotten a lot smarter with my money, esp. since i only wear jeans twice a week. i have 3 pairs of james jeans that i've purchased on sale, 2 pairs of true religion from ebay, and a pair of sevens that i got off the street -- though they are authentic. however, i honestly think the cost of jeans has gotten ridiculous (i could probably write an  essay on this) and in *most* cases the prices aren't justifiable. however if a pair speaks to you, and you feel kick ass in them, you should definitely buy them.

I don't set a limit. I have such a hard time finding jeans that fit, so when I do find some I buy them. I have a pair of Joe's Jeans that were $275 and they fit like they were made just for me. I don't really feel bad about buying them because I have the money to spend on them. If I was buying jeans instead of paying my bills or not eating then I think I would be spending too much. As long as I have then money, still paying bills and setting money aside for investing then I will spend it.

I don't think I've ever paid over $100 for a pair of jeans. I can't justify paying that much for them. Most of the jeans I have were purchased when I still worked in retail and able to utilize my employee discount.

You should try to check out places like Nordstrom Rack and Off 5th. I know I've seen designer jeans at the Rack for about $70, which isn't too bad. There are also some on-line coupon codes floating around that you can take advantage of.

oh my... i kinda feel bad posting my prices but oh well....

i feel that jeans are SO hard to buy that when i find a pair i love... i just do it.. no matter the price or if they are on sale...

that being said- the most i have ever spent is $200- and that is probably the most i will ever spend ($200 is kind of my price cut-off on a lot of clothing items not including bags or shoes)

The most I have spent so far is $150 (TR and COH). I have a few other pairs that I got on sale. My max price is probably $200. I know it sounds ridiculous but I wear jeans like everyday.

I won't spend more than $150 and if I want a pair more than that, I check ebay.  The market economy is such a devil.

I'm sticking with Levis - preferrably beat up, or white jeans or dry clean only dark wash. No whiskered designer jeans. Nothing more expensive than JCrew - and I just don't like the designer jean trend. Doesn't work with my body, although I had to a fashion show thingy and tried on a pair of PDC that were awesome with my butt, so maybe I'll eat my words. But I doubt it as long as I'm living off student loans (I think PDC is over anyway - it sucks living in the midwest).

I'm really cheap when it comes to jeans, basically because I don't really wear them that often, maybe once or twice a week.  My most expensive pair is my Kasil's, which I paid $110 for with a discount code.

I've been losing weight tho, and I think when I get down to my goal I'm going to splurge on a really hot pair.

When I was in school full time, I basically wore jeans 24/7 so I could justify buying something really spectacular (and yes I had a side business so I wasn't using school loan money to pay for them ). That's why I bought my TR Joeys last summer for the full $172. And I love them...they're probably my favorite pair of jeans...but I won't spend that kind of money anymore because I don't wear them enough to justify it. I have a full-time job and I can't wear jeans to work except on Fridays (and I sometimes get away with it on Thursdays too...hehe). Plus I can get great pairs for so cheap floating around on discount racks. My destroyed Yanuk 6-pockets only cost me $50 at Urban Outfitters and the AG Legends I'm wearing today were $80 at Loehmanns.

Dizzy, I don't think jean companies go in and out of style...it's just about what fits you best. Whatever fits you best and makes you look hot is what you should wear. And plenty of people are still rockin' PDC in Los Angeles, so they are most defintely not out of style.

I agree with ya. I really don't see anything special about them. I tried some Yanuks the other day and really didn't see anything different than all the other jeans I have. I've also seen the AG jeans and the fabric isn't anything great either. PDC the same. I did love the James jeans because of the pockets but they didn't have my size. Levis are an old classic and I think the Gap Long and Lean is really flattering on me. I also love my Bartack jeans because it's baggy and beat-up. And the Tommy Hilfiger Premium line (the dark wash) is awesome because it doesn't really fade. Great 50's look.

I've always wanted to try JCrew's jean because it's so simple. I guess I'll be trying some soon.

I have 11 pairs of designer jeans (7 pairs of 7s, 2 Salt, 1 TR, 1 PD&C) and I have never paid over $95 (including shipping/tax/etc) for any of them. (1 pair of my Salt Works were full price at $125, but they were a b-day gift from my mom.) I just cannot bring myself to break the $100 mark for jeans.

I have gotten 2 pairs of my 7s from ebay, and the others from eluxury or Saks sales. My 2nd pair of Salts came from the revolve 30% off sale. My True Religions and PD&C were from Nordstrom Rack/Loehmanns.  I think if you're willing to wait, you can get most designer jeans for much cheaper.

I know what you mean.  I had a hard time getting pass the prices until I tried on some COH and fell in love.  I only have two pairs that I purchased from Sak's and I want to say one was $150 and the other $165.  Since I am only 5'1, I love the fact that they altered them for me for only $5.

I guess I became a littl enumb to the cost of jeans living in So Cal and working at Nordstrom (during school) in South Coast Plaza.

The most I ever paid for a pair of jeans were my COH for $186.  I also have a pair of 7's, TR, Joe's, and a Jill Stuart.  These all cost about $80-100 and I've gotten them at Nordstrom Rack, Loehman's, Macy's, and Marshalls.  Now my job lets me wear jeans everyday, i feel it is a little more justifiable, but I can always wait to get a good buy for about $100.  But definitely I feel a jean is a splurge-worthy item since the cost-per-wear tends to be very low.

i try to get them on sale, because it's totally within the realm of possibility usually.  i don't think i've ever paid over about $140 for a pair of jeans, and i probably wouldn't spend much more than $200 ever.  but for something that i didn't think i could reasonably expect to get on sale and it was really fabulous and fit me really well, i would say i'd probably spend up to around $300.  but they would have to be some truly special jeans.
