I'm just wedding crazy lately, and I'm only 19 so no wedding for a few years (although I have the right guy!). So, I would like to live through you women and know your romantic stories please!
J and I had just signed a lease on our apt. and were spending evey evening after work cleaning and painting the place. it needed a lot of work, and this was July, so it was HOT and HUMID in NYC. The evening of our 1-year anniversary we decided that keeping up the momentum on our work in the apt was more important than going out for a nice dinner (though I challenge that reasoning now...). We also decided that since we had plowed so much more $ into fixing up the apt than we thought we'd have to, we weren't gonna get each other gifts, either.
So, its midnight and we're exhausted after painting the livingroom. We're both sitting on a huge pile of pillows in another room, listening to music and he jumps up, runs to the bedroom closet and pulls out a little Tiffany bag. My head starts spinning. He sits down and says: "Well, I know we agreed not to get each other presents, but I got you something." Heart in throat and barely breathing, I open the box to find... a keyring. It is actually really cute -- two separate keyrings that are joined by a small heart on each. I give him one and put the other on my key chain .
We settle back on the pillows and he asks "Will you marry me?" and this time my head is really spinning (if I had been standing, I would have passed out) and I say "Yeah, I will" and we make out passionately for a few minutes and then both run and call our respective parents.
Thus is my 'romantic' proposal. Ah well. There are about 5 different places in NYC that would have been perfect proposal spots, but ultimately I like that he chose to do it at home. It was a great way to start building memories in the apt. When talking with him later about it, he said that he was gonna wait until November some time to ask, but then just couldn't, which is sweet. I'm glad, too. I hate waiting!

sorry, i'm pasting this from my weddingchannel page....we got married 2 weeks ago last saturday. he's the greatest.
Jessica was on vacation in Aspen with her family. Andrew was invited but unable to come because he had just started a new job. The week went well, skiing, shopping, eating, etc. Thursday Jessica went shopping in town with her mom, as planned, and came back to the apartment/hotel around 3:30 for a 'meeting' at 4pm. The door to Jessica's bedroom was closed. Strange, but no big deal. The Stillmans had seen Secret Window w/Johnny Depp the night before (scary but dumb) so she asked her assembled family if Johnny Depp was behind the door. Since she'd hurt her back skiing the day before (the icy/hot patch on her tail bone was very attractive to her soon-to-be-fiance) she needed to put all her new purchases down in her room. When she opened the door and saw flowers, red roses with purple delphiniums (the same kind of flowers Andrew has gotten for her for over 2 years) she started crying....she knew he must be there....one more step and there he was in a suit wearing the tie Jessica had bought for him. I couldn't stop crying (oops, broke character) and he had to practically push me away so he could ask if I would marry him. I think I said something about the tie first then I said yes. He put on my ring (a family heirloom, my father's mother's mother's ring which was then my mother's engagement ring and NOW MINE!!!) and I cried some more. The whole thing had been planned for 2 weeks....and NO ONE TOLD!
....we were going out for dinner for our 1 year anniversary...we went to the place where we went on our first date for dinner...thenn we got back in the car and he started driving to wear my parents lived....he stopped in front of their building and told me to get out of the car...I was like I am tired and want to go home...what are you doing....he said just get out of the car.....so we get out and he says he wants to take a walk...so we walk about half way down the block and he stops and says..."I wanted to do this in the exact place that I first saw you a year ago now..(I was house sitting for you parents and i was out walking their dog on the street when he came to pick me up for our first date...we met on match.com)..." I was going to do this at the restaurant, but I know you do not like everybody looking at you...so will you marry me".....I was so very surprised, I did not think he was going to propose until the next summer....I was so happy thta i was cryiing...sorry to ramble
My husband is a Major in the Air Force. When we were dating, and he was a lowly Lieutenant, he got picked up for pilot training. We were visiting one of the bases that had a T-38 jet, one of the first he flew, on display. We were looking at it, and he proposed. It was so sweet. I felt bad for him, though, because he had surgery on his ACL (knee) and had a hard time getting down on one knee.
we got engaged on march 1st of last year, the day before my 26th birthday, nearly 5 years after we had started dating. it was totally a surprise, and the way he chose to do it was so perfect for us - we are definitely kind of homebodies and we usually just veg out at night watching TV. so that monday evening, i was at home, grouchy and feeling low, watching the second half of the oscars which i had recorded sunday night - i already knew who had won, but i wanted to hear the speeches. he came home from work and we decided to order a pizza. what's so funny is that he asked me if i wanted to open a birthday present and I just sort of said, half-paying attention, "yeah, after the oscars are done".
so he was just sitting around with me watching the oscars, in his work clothes (which should have thrown me off because he always changes into gym shorts as soon as he gets home from work), waiting for the pizza to be delivered. then when it was done he said "do you want to have a birthday present now?" i did, so he said, "there are a few, so pick a number between 1 and 3 and that's the present you will get" so i picked "2" and he told me to close my eyes and put out my hand. this whole time i was expecting him to come out and give me an iPod mini because i had been dropping hints about that as a potential gift for months. he put a box in my hand that didn't feel like an iPod - this shows that I wasn't at all expecting a proposal because my first thought literally was, "this feels too small to be an iPod" - and when i opened my eyes there was this ring box!
he got down on his knee, in his work clothes, on the floor of the dirty apartment and i was laughing and crying hysterically so i don't even know what he said to me, but finally he asked me the big important question and i said "yes!"
we were so excited and right after it happened, the pizza man came and i was so happy that i said "i'm engaged!" and I gave him a huge tip. at this time, my fiance told me that he had called my dad at work that morning to ask for his blessing (he didn't know my dad's phone number, just the company that he works for - so he called the general information number of the company listed on the website and asked to be transferred to my dad) and of course my dad had to call my mom as soon as he got off the phone with this exciting news, so by the time i called them after it happened, they already knew! i was trying to be all sly about it... i said "hey mom, i just wanted to call you tonight because i wasn't sure if i'd be able to call you on my birthday" and she said "ok... anything else you have to tell us?" -- so it took some of the excitement out of telling them, but they were very happy. and we told my fiance's family and they were all thrilled.
so that's our story!

It was my college graduation party with about 60 of my family and friends. We are both very, very family oriented which made it very special for us to have them all be a part of it. It was a surprise and I really don't like surprises, so I was floored that they put it past me. He was in cahoots with my mom. When I sat down to cut my graduation cake (I didn't care where he was at the time because I just wanted cake) I didn't even notice what it said and my best friend pointed it out to me. The cake said "Congratulations Sabrina ?" And I was like "why is there a ?, I DID graduate!" I looked at my mom, and she looked at Chris (by BF at the time) and he came towards me and got down on one knee. I think he was nervous in front of all the people because he didn't make a speech or anything, he just said "will you marry me?" Of corse I said yes, and then my parents started passing champaigne to everyone, and we were all laughing and crying! The best part is we have great photos of it that we included in our wedding video. A wonderful memory! We will be married 6 months May 7th. I couldn't love anyone more! Being married is great!!!! Thanks for letting me tell my story!
P.S. We had looked at rings for fun but, I found out he had had it for a month before he proposed and it was exactly the one we designed together! Perfect 1 carat princess cut with .5 carat princess cut saphiers on each side. His birthstone. It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!!
